🚜As National Farm Safety Week 2024, themed "In Safe Hands," comes to an end, we'd like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all our Australian farmers for the essential service you provide to all of us! 🚜 This National Farm Safety Week, we celebrated the theme "In Safe Hands," recognising the vital role of safety in the agriculture industry. Farming is the backbone of our nation, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our farmers is paramount. 🔸 Key Safety Tips for Farmers: ✅Regular Equipment Checks: Ensure all machinery and equipment are well-maintained and safe to use. ✅Protective Gear: Always wear appropriate protective clothing and gear to minimise injury risks. ✅Training: Stay updated with the latest safety protocols and training to handle equipment and chemicals safely. ✅Mental Health: Prioritise mental health and seek support when needed. Farming can be stressful, and mental wellbeing is just as important as physical safety. ✅Emergency Plans: Have clear emergency procedures in place and ensure everyone on the farm knows them. Let's work together to keep our farms safe and ensure that every farmer is truly "In Safe Hands." Happy National Farm Safety Week! #FarmSafety #NationalFarmSafetyWeek #InSafeHands #AgricultureSafety #FarmerWellbeing #CROSSapac

Now retired after a lifetime trying to improve farm safety! Ex-HSE; Douglas Bomford Trust Sec; IOSH Rural Ind Gp Chair and IOSH Chiltern Cttee; APSE Consultant Trainer [t/a AP(HSC)]; ran Beds Farmers Training Gp etc
“Active supervision” advocated to protect #children on #farms - It would certainly contribute to improving #childsafety and #farmsafety , so give it a read, think about it, and share it. #FarmSafetyHasNoBorders Don’t forget our own legislation though - No child under 13 on (working) tractors or equipment, and assess suitability to cope with tasks (and emergency situations) beyond that age. See Health and Safety Executive guidance: https://lnkd.in/e3SU_eUQ
Children living on or visiting farms need a helping hand to remain safe. Active supervision ensures children remain in sight and within arm's reach and involves staying engages, anticipating potential risks, and guiding children as they navigate the farm environment. Watch the video below - the team at Clovelly Dairy in Tasmania have some great guidelines in place to keep children engaged and learning about dairy farming in a safe and responsible way. #nationalfarmsafetyweek #insafehands #farmsafety

Buzz Word Bingo Rachel Smith, Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association Executive Director reckons the relationship between rural trucking and government is a bit like buzz word bingo. However, writes Rachel, the key focus area of the transport industry is how do we move more freight, in a more safe, productive and efficient manner. Many Australians would not be aware, road transport is one of the most regulated industries in Australia, whether it be Heavy Vehicle National Law, WH&S, animal welfare, biosecurity, registration, and licensing, it is not easy to be an operator or driver. Like many transport industry associations ALRTA has been focussed on inputting productive and pragmatic advice to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) reform review process. It has been a lengthy process to get to this point, following the August 2021 Infrastructure Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ITMM) decision to take on the recommendations from the Kanofsky review. How many months of the year do your dairy cows spend grazing outdoor? Are they equipped with strong feet and legs to walk between the barn and the field? How do they handle rough weather — and how is their feed intake? Having cows out to pasture for a certain amount of months per year is a common practice for organic and modern family farmers in Scandinavia. The advantages of this type of farming include fresh air, daily exercise and better animal welfare. But switching between the indoor barn and the outdoor fields makes certain traits in your cows even more important: hoof health, general health, feed intake, and resilience. Farm Safety Tips The Irish Farmers Journal highlights some farm safety tips to keep in mind as farmers enter their busiest season. 👉Be aware of newly calved cows out in paddocks, as they will be protective of calves and can become aggressive quickly and there are limited options to escape when out in a field. 👉Stock bulls will be out in fields as breeding gets underway. When checking animals, give bulls plenty of space to avoid aggravating them. 👉Make sure tractors and trailers are roadworthy, inspect tyres and replace if needed. Check tractor and trailer lights are working. Make sure tractors are properly balanced with front weights when under load as this can affect grip on sloped ground as well as braking efficiency. 👉Make sure machinery kit such as the mower, baler, rake and tedder all have safety guards in place before use. 🚜 If you are a farmer looking to develop your farm and live or work in the Athlone or Castlerea area, contact us today on ☎️ 090 647 2497 and we can talk through your funding options over the phone or visit 💻 https://buff.ly/42K8Oy3 for more information. #FarmerFriendlyFinance #Cultivate #ACCU #CreditUnion

Hi Friends, Chairman Ian Sauer updates you on TasFarmers recent advocacy victories, including statewide drought assistance extension and increased sailings to King Island. Highlights 🌾 Drought assistance was extended statewide following TasFarmers' lobbying efforts, with plans for coordinated support and education through partnerships with Rural Business Tasmania and the Innovation and Drought Hub. 🚢 Increased sailings to King Island secured through TasFarmers' lobbying efforts, doubling frequency to facilitate livestock transportation and feed supply, with continued focus on resolving port usage issues. ⚡ TasNetworks conducts drop-in forums receiving positive feedback from farmers, while Ian cautions farmers to seek legal advice regarding compensation agreements. 📝 Committee meetings for sustainability, water and wildlife. Challenging times and the urgent need for water releases to support livestock feeding. 🗳️ Political parties adopt most of TasFarmers' election asks reflecting the significance of agriculture to the economy. As always have a great weekend.
