Executive and personal coach, business consultant

GAME OVER. After 14 incredibly happy years, I’ve left Neon Play, the company I started, to become a full-time coach and consultant (www.olichristie.com). Exciting times, but obviously tinged with a bit of sadness and reflection. It’s been an extraordinary decade and a half. If you’ll indulge me, here are my top 10 highlights... EMPLOYING 100 PEOPLE: Interviewing every applicant and making sure they were right for us has been a joy. We always looked for two key qualities, 1. talent or potential, and 2. the right personality - no ego, team players, basically not a dick. We've had many amazing people (and a few dicks) LESSON: Trust your gut. BACK OF THE NET: Launching our first game, Flick Football, made in my kitchen with Mark Allen, and seeing it (briefly) above Angry Birds was incredible. Thanks you Robert Small and Sérgio Varanda. LESSON: Choose the right partners. BIG APPLE: Becoming Apple’s 10 billionth app download with Paper Glider was a whirlwind of media attention. The call from Cupertino during my daughter’s bedtime was unforgettable. LESSON: Make the most of your luck. WINNING AWARDS: We've won over 30 awards, from Cirencester to Glos to national awards. Hearing our name read out (and the resulting celebrations) was always a thrill. LESSON: Enter awards - someone has to win. RULING THE WORLD: A one-day hackathon led to a little prototype that became a monster hit. Roller Splat, made by Tom Toye on work experience, went on to be the top-selling game globally for two months, with 65 million downloads. LESSON: Trust everyone to come up with ideas. MEETING THE QUEEN: Meeting The Queen at Buckingham Palace was surreal. Her presence and smile were unforgettable. LESSON: Enjoy the highs. BEING INVITED TO 10 DOWNING STREET: Winning the Queen’s Award led to an invitation to Downing Street. Despite a hiccup with my ID, it was an unforgettable experience. A brief chat with David Cameron about Cotswolds talent was unexpected. LESSON: Open all the doors. SPEAKING: Speaking at various prestigious venues, from Parliament to GCHQ, has been a pinch-yourself experience. From the BBC to Apple, the opportunities have been incredible. LESSON: Say yes and overcome imposter syndrome. MEETING INCREDIBLE PEOPLE: I've met many talented and interesting people, from sports heroes to royalty, business titans to comedians, TV stars to pop stars. LESSON: Interesting people make life interesting. THE DEEP CHALLENGES: From being sued on day one, to being let down by business partners, to facing staff challenges and worse, it's not been easy. But when I look back, it is the super-challenging times that we have got through that I’m most proud of really. I’ve learned so much about people, life, business and myself, that I will look back at a wonderful 14 years of great times with great people. LESSON: Embrace the challenges. Here's to the next chapter. BRING IT ON!!

End of an Era but the start of another. The way you ran and made a success of Neon Play always inspired me in how I've run Two Tails. Running any kind of business, but especially in games I think, is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Anyway, good luck with everything and I'll toast a beer in Neon Play's name next time I have one in my hand :)

Oli, what a fantastic journey. Flick football was essential in helping us establish our mobile business, so the feeling is very much mutual!

That’s one hell of a journey Oli, congratulations and remember, ‘Game Over’ is always followed by ‘Press Start’ 😉🎉

Amazing Oli, I learnt a lot from Neon Play and working with you, lessons I still employ in my every day work 👏👏 The people you coach are going to get an incredible chance to gain from you 🍾
