The #WaterStewardship space is moving fast! SCS Standards developed a certification standard for Water Stewardship and Resiliency It aims to 1. Stimulate nature-based and innovative technology solutions towards increasing water resiliency and resource management 2. Encourage organizations to engage with their surrounding communities, and 3. Promote transparency by communicating an organization’s impact on the environment and progress over time To incentivise leadership, their standard also has a special recognition for trailblazers in the following categories: Nature-Based Solutions Innovative Technologies Natural Habitat and Biodiversity Impacts Net-Zero Water Net-Positive Water  Water Circularity Water Quality  Community Development They just opened a public consultation, so if you'd like a sneak peak and offer some advice on how to shape it better, you can do so until April 26, 2024 You can request a copy of the standard by emailing: standards@scsstandards.org I just requested my copy and I'm curious to read more about it. 🌊 This afternoon, I will moderate a workshop on water management with cities from across Europe as part of the DG ENV #GreenCities initiatives. Interestingly, nature has given me a personal reminder of the importance of our work. For the first time in many years, my cellar and garden are flooded. I can't help but think this is linked to recent changes in the road side verges. We need sustainable water management practices in urban planning. Engaging and informative presentations centered on #WaterPartnerships characterized Day 3 at the #WaterDevelopmnentCongress. 💡My key takeaway was the key role of the #communities in solving their #Water challenges. Some of the sustainable solutions brought forward to respond to water scarcity included rain water harvesting, water recycling and water conservation practices. An interesting quote by one of the speakers summarized the importance of engaging communities as key partners in water access and management: 💧’People understand their water challenges, and they also understand their water solutions’ 🧐 Way forward: water partnerships based on a public-private-community partnership (PPCP) model. #WaterDevelopmnentCongress #communities #partnerships

One of my favorite statements from this week in Paris was made by Cécile Faraud of C40 Cities at the World Green Building Council summit. We must stop business for business’ sake and building for building’s sake. We have to building what people need. What and how much DO we need? How do we make the most of what we already have? It’s clear that embracing the concept of #sufficiency is fundamental to any equitable path forward within the planetary boundaries of our earth.
