Happy International Women’s Day. #inspireinclusion #IWD. My personal reflections as shared with the wider A.P. Moller - Maersk Eastern Africa organization this morning, on how the ownership of a DEI mindset can unlock excellence as individuals or collective members of an organization/community. ⬇️ As the African proverb goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. In life and career, this proverb continues to resonate and remains a key part of how I strive to approach my role within leadership, crossfunctionally and engagement across social interactions. 1. It’s always Day 1. Regardless of our experience, historical or conscious bias, maintaining an inclusive mindset fosters the quest for knowledge, curiosity and our readiness to welcome new perspectives for growth. 2. We have all the inspiration we need around us. In our complex and rapidly evolving world, remaining self-aware, leveraging the strengths of our connections/peers constructively and symbiotically can indeed take us a step closer to winning in our pursuits. 3. We do meaningful work integrating global supply chains that can inspire the next generation, female – male - young – old, etc. Our representation does matter and can unlock a positive chain reaction for diversity, equity and inclusion for the next generation. #BJA #TDM

Breaking the barriers of women’s political leadership and active participation in decision-making is paramount for inclusive governance. Tomorrow, I’ll be facilitating a session at a one-day capacity-building training organized by Breaking the Barriers, supported by Yiaga Africa & UK Int’l Development. It’s crucial to empower women with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate political spaces effectively. By providing this training, we aim to inspire and equip women to take on leadership roles, challenge stereotypes, and contribute meaningfully to shaping our collective future. Together, we can create a more inclusive and representative political landscape. #YLA #He4She

I think that in addition to developing the talents and skills of women leaders, mentoring, sponsorship and creating a strong network are of critical importance. Additionally, women leaders should be supported with training and continuous development to increase their success and potential.

Africa Leadership Legacy continues to advocate for women Leadership inclusion through the various projects that it undertakes. This year we join the world in celebrating International Women’s Day under the theme “Inspire Inclusion”.   As of 2022, 32% of senior management roles globally are held by women. This is the highest number ever recorded (Theus, 2022). However, women are still underrepresented compared to their presence as 50% of the population. Even with this minority percentage, women in leadership are greatly making positive strides to benefit organisations and the communities they are found in.   Since 2023, Africa Leadership Legacy has been carrying out leadership research including a series of interviews titled “Meet the CEO”. We have interviewed CEOs from various parts of Africa with 92% of our CEOs being women. During this Month of Women, we showcase some of these women CEOs we have interviewed and see their response to the question we asked, “Do you believe that women are sufficiently represented in leadership?”   Their answers will be on the posters we shall be posting to honor them.   Let us all Inspire Inclusion as we celebrate women today! [Meet the Women of UE] In honor of Women’s History Month, we spoke with women at UE about their careers in insurance and people who inspired and supported them on their journey. 2 minutes with Sarah Braughler: I feel lucky to have built a career at UE. One of the reasons I was able to grow at this company was Janice Abraham, UE’s former President and CEO. She was a fearless, bold leader who opened doors for women and made space for us to thrive.   We’re a company where women and men have that sensitivity for openness and growth. UE’s current President and CEO, Rick Mills, frequently emphasizes the benefits that diversity and inclusion bring to UE.   Over the years I have benefitted from this well-rounded set of trusted advisors and career development programs, like our leadership development program and our mentoring program, which pairs junior and senior employees. Institutional knowledge is an asset, but you can lose sight of what’s going on externally. Growth can come from many directions, and I learn a lot from our newcomers.
