🚄✨ Last week's work trip took me on a train journey from London to Berlin, and I'm excited to share my experience! 🌍 At The Carbon Trust, we prioritise sustainability, and this trip was a testament to that commitment. Opting for a train journey—Eurostar to Brussels and a sleeper to Berlin—aligned with our carbon budget and highlighted our dedication to reducing our environmental impact. Choosing the train, despite its higher ticket price compared to flying (which was 64% lower in this case), was a conscious decision. It highlighted a broader issue—why is taking the train often 3-5 times more expensive than flying? As individuals, it can be challenging to front the quintupled cost of train travel. It's time for the cost of flying to reflect its environmental consequences. In this instance, the numbers spoke volumes. A return flight would have released 83% more CO2 than my train journey. It's a stark reminder that the environmental costs associated with flying should be factored into its price. Personally, I enjoyed my train journey. I was able to take as many liquids as I wanted and didn't have to arrive 2-3 hours early to a far away airport! I urge companies to consider the environmental impact of their travel choices. For those interested in exploring train travel options, I found the perfect route through https://www.seat61.com/. It made planning my journey a breeze, and I'm grateful for the resources it provided. Let's continue to champion sustainable choices and work towards a future where responsible travel is accessible to all. 🌿🚆 #Sustainability #TrainTravel #CarbonTrust #EnvironmentallyFriendlyJourney

As of 8/17/23, Go Fly Maui, LLC has resumed flight operations. Nick and I continue to be inspired by the outpouring of love and aloha for our community. Many have asked us how they can best support our island in this time of need. 1. Donate and Volunteer The County of Maui has officially endorsed Hawaii Community Foundation and Maui United Way as places to donate financially. For those on Maui, MauiNuiStrong.info (https://lnkd.in/g-H8RZBa) has a list of current volunteer opportunities. 2. Visit Maui Ilihia Gionson, a spokesman for the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, said it best. “Tourism is Hawaii’s major economic driver, and we don’t want to compound a horrific natural disaster of the fires with a secondary economic disaster.” In alignment with Governor Josh Green, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority urges visitors to refrain from going to West Maui (including Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua) but encourages travelers to consider visiting other areas of Maui (including Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Pāʻia and Hāna). Our visitor industry accounts for 80 percent of every dollar generated on the island, but there are a great many empty rooms and open tables on the island right now, and we’re all feeling the impact. No, West Maui is not the place to visit right now. The rest of #Hawaii, however, needs your support. Pack compassion. Pack respect. Please visit #Maui. 3. Fly Go Fly Maui is among the many #smallbusinesses feeling the impact of the drop in visitors to the island. If you’re visiting Maui in the weeks ahead, please consider flying with us (https://goflymaui.com for details). The places we fly are far from the impact zone and don’t interfere with operations there. We promise we will take great care of you. If you’re planning to visit Maui at a later date, but don’t yet know when, please consider buying a Go Fly Maui gift certificate by calling (808) 633-5356. The value of these certificates never expires, and you’ll be supporting our small business as we hope for a rebound in tourism. Regardless of how you choose to help, mahalo for your compassion. Our community is grateful for your support. Maui no ka oi. Magen and Nick Moran Owners, Go Fly Maui

UHNW Recruitment Specialist | Advising Family Offices, Yacht Management Companies & Private Estates | Elite Staff Placement
Yachting definitely has a PR problem which as an industry we aren’t doing a very good job of challenging. Individual yachts can make a difference though, certainly locally to them. It doesn’t have to be super complicated. A beach clean, donating clothes / uniform or cooking food for a local soup kitchen and then serving the food are some easy examples. If there is budget @Yachtaidglobal (link in comments) does some excellent humanitarian and conservation work. One of my clients has an amazing, generous boss who is fully embracing ‘giving back’ through yachting. Over the coming months they have a variety of things organized which will benefit the areas they are visiting. Not only does it make a bit of a difference to locals people’s lives, it really engages the crew. Makes them feel part of something meaningful. This will help with crew retention and help attract better quality crew to a program. So for lots of reasons I strongly encourage yachts to give a little something back. Doesn’t cost much necessarily, just needs a little commitment and effort. Hopefully we see more yachts doing their bit moving forward. #superyachtindustry #recruitment #crewagency #superyachts #Captainrecruitment

Flying is always a tricky experience, with so many variables: human behavior, weather, staff availability, technical glitches etc. Flying with Air India is even trickier (although I am told it is improving). Something I will never understand is that when I request a ticket cancellation, I am not informed as the customer I need to request a refund separately, through the website. Who are the people cancelling tickets and leaving money on the table as a donation to the airline.. Is this a revenue stream to right some of the historical mismanagement? Are there other airlines who do this?

Luxury travel is usually not eco-friendly and highly unsustainable. This means you travel at the expense of the future generations. It goes beyond the scope of this short post to explain why, if you cannot understand why by yourself. Nevertheless, with just a few compromises, you can still enjoy a fantastic and life-changing trip that not only you, but others too, will remember for life. For example, instead of flying in your personal first-class suite like an Arab billionaire, just because you can afford it, make a difference and fly amongst "ordinary" people. It is only for a few hours after all. Save this money and donate it to a social or environmental project in the visiting country. For your airline company, you are just a number with a fat wallet, but for the people who will receive your donation, you will be a God-sent sponsor, a hero, and a life model. Please, contact us for details on how you can contribute to our sustainability projects as a part of your holidays in Greece. This is a genuine chance to offset your “travel footprint” by supporting one of the projects we recommend. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail.” Ralph Waldo Emerson #sustainabletravelgreece #sustainabilitygreece #greentravelgreece Photo: The first windmill park in Europe was on the island of Crete in the late 20s!

Rewards for tourists in Copenhagen 🌱 Tourists will be rewarded with free food and activities if they participate in tasks including litter-picking (good luck finding any litter...), traveling by public transport, or cycling around the 546km of bicycle paths. This program relies on honesty, as attractions won't require concrete evidence of your green activity. However, some locations might ask for a simple photo (e.g. you riding a 🚴🏻♀️) or proof of using public transport. Participation in this pilot scheme is voluntary for businesses like museums, rooftop bars, and even kayaking charities. What's crazy is that the government won't be reimbursing them for offering these discounts. Despite the lack of reimbursement, 24 organisations have already joined the initiative 💚 Image: sustainable power plant with a ski slope on the roof #coppay #denmark #ecotourism #greentech #climatetech

Lifetime warranty & outstanding customer service needs a shout out. I love to travel and I love quality kit from awesome brands to make the adventures easier. I bought a bag from Peak Design that has been superb apart from the straps slipping, I reached out and experienced has been nothing but A* customer service. From their customer service team. "In line with this, I have ordered a replacement Travel Backpack 45L in Black to be sent to you at no charge... We are researching sustainable end-of-life options for our defective bags, but in the meantime, if your bag still functions at some level, we encourage you to donate it, give it to a friend, or repurpose it in some other way. Please note that since the old bag has been “warrantied out,” it is no longer eligible for future claims. If you choose to pass the bag along, please be sure that the new owner is aware of this limitation. If you have any further inquiries, feel free to reach out. Have a good day!" I'll be donating my old bag to my friend Paul Carnall, hoping to get the strap slip sorted once we have the replacement bag to compare it against. Thank you Peak Design, you have just gained two loyal brand advocates and customers for life. #peakdesign #customerservice #backpacks #sustainable
