A long-term commercial #partnership centered on air cargo has been established between CHAMP Cargosystems and Deloitte through the signing of an agreement. According to an official announcement, the agreement was revealed during a signing ceremony held in Hong Kong as part of the IATA World Cargo Symposium. "Deloitte and CHAMP see the partnership as the best approach to handle some of the industry's strategic concerns in a significantly more efficient manner. They both contribute #complementary skills to the partnership. In order to guarantee that solutions provide the required process improvements and benefits realisation, this partnership will concentrate on generating a good return on investment (ROI) in the design of business cases. Presently, Deloitte provides services to over 100 airlines globally, including all 20 of the largest airlines in terms of revenue. Not to simply re-post articles you likely have already seen, but two logistics items to note… Lufthansa cargo revenue off 41% YoY in Q3, while Maersk is cutting 10,000 jobs or 9% of it’s global workforce- although several in that group were already attritted through 2023. Right now, it’s a difficult time to be in the logistics industry. But more than ever, while many companies are on their heels, or reducing their capital investments in transportation or logistics, it’s clear that companies still have opportunity to lean into initiatives and stay the course. Kuehne + Nagel and Lufthansa Cargo drive change with paperless lanes connecting Europe and Asia This strategic collaboration aims to eliminate the cumbersome load of physical paperwork while enhancing the efficiency of the entire air freight process. The benefits extend beyond operational streamlining, with a clear focus on sustainable practices within the air freight industry. During the initial phases of the pilot program, a remarkable milestone was achieved accomplishing 100% paperless shipments for general cargo on the Germany-Hong Kong route. However, this initiative goes beyond the mere implementation of electronic air waybills; it also extends to encompass accompanying documents and paper pouches. As progress continues, the plan is to expand these paperless lanes to encompass additional routes, ultimately constructing at comprehensive paperless corridor between Europe and Asia for general cargo, rendering traditional paper-based transport documentation obsolete. Both participating companies are enthusiastic about the transformative potential of this pilot project. Hapag-Lloyd AG's departure from THE Alliance to form the Gemini Cooperation with A.P. Moller - Maersk marks a pivotal shift in the global shipping industry, reflecting broader trends toward decarbonisation, enhanced service reliability, and strategic realignment among major carriers. The withdrawal has damaged THE Alliance's position, prompting questions about finding a new partner to compete with MSC, the Ocean Alliance, and the newly created Gemini Cooperation. Despite this obstacle, THE Alliance has yet to reveal specific plans for adaptation or expansion following Hapag-Lloyd's departure. The silence of ONE, Yang Ming, and HMM on their future strategy implies a cautious attitude as they analyse their alternatives in an evolving maritime scene. Also, the departure of Hapag-Lloyd leaves THE Alliance with around 3.3 million TEUs, while Gemini Cooperation will be slightly ahead with 3.4 million TEUs. Ocean Alliance, comprised of CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, and Evergreen Marine Corporation, will be the largest grouping, with over 8.3 million TEUs. Industry experts, such as those from Alphaliner, have remarked that the alternatives for THEA's remaining members are extremely limited, especially given the alliance's history of issues with schedule reliability and the large market share commanded by competing alliances in critical trade lanes. There is also discussion regarding prospective new partners for THE Alliance, with Taiwan's Wan Hai cited as a viable possibility because of its current cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd on an Asia-US east coast loop.
