Sharing a personal project I've recently put together - a series of motion posters focusing on typography. 🎨 I'm curious if designers still use Behance as their go-to platform for displaying their work in a structured manner. Personally, I continue to find it a valuable source of inspiration and enjoy discovering what other designers are creating. What I find particularly valuable is the diverse range of categories available there, allowing us to explore various niches. I frequently browse through toy design projects for inspiration. Project link in the comments. 👇 #motiondesign #motiongraphics #animation #graphicdesign #type

WHEN THE IDEA JUST WON’T FIT OR THE IMPORTANCE OF TYPOGRAPHY 🐎I spent far too long driving at 50mph behind this van on the M25 yesterday. I’m sure it gave every designer, typographer and typesetter who saw it a nervous twitch. 👩🎨I thought of the sign writer accepting the job and then seeing the van. “How am I going to fit 6 letters into 4 spaces?”he must of thought before deciding “Sod it!!” and not bothering. We’ve all done it; held onto an idea that we loved so much…even after it became clear that it no longer fitted the brief or client challenge. Or we’ve given into a client’s request for a different (often cheaper) solution, even if we know in our hearts it’s not right because their focus is budget not impact. Whether creative or consultant, we have to hold our nerve and be honest if something isn’t going to work. And put our egos aside when our own favourite idea isn’t the right idea. And sometimes that might mean losing a gig. 🐴But that’s better than being sent to the knackers yard. P.S. I still can’t figure out how to space those letters.

Every word in this LinkedIn post you're reading right now had a graphic designer involved. The typographer who designed each letter of the font used, one character at a time. The graphic designers who determined the spacing, the weight, the kerning, the layout, the rhythm as you read. It's easy to look at a sentence and only analyze the value of the sentence's meaning. But the type choices of that text each speak with a different voice. Our process of branding at Focus Lab helps uncover what unique typographic voice best suits the message your brand will communicate. Michael Bierut used a perfect analogy: "Graphic designers working with text serve as casting directors when they pick a typeface. What kind of characters do you want to speak these lines?" #designleadership #creativeleadership #graphicdesign #typography

Brand Builder for businesses that want to make a positive impact | Owner at Middlename Creative Agency
Sometimes it's the first idea. Sometimes it's the 100th idea. But it's usually the most fun idea. Because people like fun. And branding is about people. Box Party was an interactive arts project between Kyle Hodgman and Jim Kuehn. Box Party turned music and interactive projections into 5-minute, mini dance parties held in a converted shipping container. This was just too much fun not to create a logo for! The experience for the event was a mash-up of the digital and analog. So we created an 80s look-and-feel to represent the combination of the two. The concept for the logo was straightforward: make some custom typography and turn it into the shape of a box. #branding #logodesign #customtypography

90% (I made that number up, it’s probably closer to 100) of graphic designers don’t know what is actually wrong with Comic Sans. They laugh and make joke because they think they are supposed too, but ask them why. *Crickets Ironically, Comic Sans is one of the most successful TYPEFACE’s there is. I mean, people laugh, for what ever reason, it’s a joke to people and puts a smile on their face. No other typeface can boast doing what it’s named for. It is also one of the few typefaces that is good to go out of the box, expertly designed, it requires little to no fiddling, necessary kerning nor tracking. Comic Sans is also one of the few types that is recognizable by virtually everyone on the planet, designers and non-designers alike. In all facets of type design there is actually nothing wrong with the typeface itself, never has been. An expert designer can wield Comic Sans and kick ass with it, others will laugh and miss the opportunity to use the perfect typeface when the situation calls for it. So what’s the joke? I would explain but I kind of like laughing at “designers” that laugh at an appropriate use of the type. 🤣🤣🤣 However, if you are truly interested in the “why” I can explain in the comments if asked. #art #artist #graphicdesign #graphicdesigners #typography
