New Post: MuleSoft Tutorial For Beginners

So when developing software solutions for clients I get to work with a lot of developers across the skill spectrum, and a question that commonly gets asked by developers is: "What is the best skill to have to ensure I can get the best job opportunities?" My answer often astounds them!! I think in their mind they have already chosen a popular tech stack and they are just waiting for me to validate their thinking. It's an interesting situation to be in and honestly a gratious opportunity for me to impart some insight and experience with as much sincerity and honesty as I can muster. Personally I started in tech in 1994, and I've spent many years architecting solutions for clients big and small, and for more clients than I can now remember. Some notable projects that come to mind are Price Waterhouse Coopers and African Bank, which were some of the biggest projects I've worked on involving hundreds of sites. As a developer myself I have used many programming technologies and tech stacks and have also been in the situation I call analysis paralysis, where you desperately want to find and choose the best tech stack to get the best job opportunities. It's my exposure to business across industries and my experience dealing with all forms of tech that today refines my thinking and helps me answer this question. And my answer is... It does not matter what you decide to choose. Just know whatever you decide, make damn sure you are the most skilled at it! Why? Because there are hundreds of thousands of businesses out there and I can assure you no matter the popular flavor of the day in tech, some company somewhere is going to need your stack. Trust me on this. A little homework. Try this. Google "Jobs Adobe Coldfusion Developer" or "Jobs Mulesoft Developer". Two older skillsets you may not have heard of yet but will find jobs for. Good luck, you have totally got this 💪

Who's the client on this Mulesoft architect position in either NY/NJ/or NC Charlotte now? I think I know but I've had 50 recruiters send me email and ring my phone off the hook for this one. Here's the scenario. This is bah-bah-looey from MarbleMouth technical. Are you currently in the job market? I have an exciting MuleSoft position, onsite, in one of three places. Are you interested? Well, first who is the client? And, don't ask 'me' for my rate. What's your best rate? This is just a scenario, I haven't asked. With things the way they are today, here's some reasons why this wouldn't be for me: 1. If this position is so important, a consulting firm with MuleSoft resources would have already filled it. 2. If MarbleMouth Technical LLC can't share the client name up front, I wouldn't be interested. 3. I've never heard of MarbleMouth Technical LLC and what would prompt me to trust them. 4. If I went to the closest position for a contract (can't count on these days) I would either stay in a motel or find an apartment? The cost of living and then no health benefits would take it all. 5. So if this is good for a young single person great! But young, single people aren't generally Mule architects. This resource secure is going to be a failure for this client. And, I don't blame the recruiters all fighting over the "Right to Represent", I blame the client. Clients used to pay travel expenses or relocation costs. This client, whoever they are, is providing no incentive. I do however, hope that you fill this position fast so my phone will stop ringing and my email box get a little break. I wrote this post so if you happen to read it, you'll understand the IT landscape a little better. 1) You hand off the real HR work for IT seat-warmers to tiny-hands in foreign lands and 2) then forget that the world of traveling IT consultants is much smaller. And, people are not going to uproot their homes and family to move to NY/NJ/or NC without trust, relocation, FTE, and financial incentive.
