This work enhances self-healing coatings by incorporating surface-tethered covalently adaptable networks (CANs). Using surface-initiated polymerization combined with spray-coating, it deposits polymers with reversible crosslinks. These coatings, based on reversible vinylogous urethane bonds from 2-(acetoacetoxy)ethyl methacrylate-based polymers and tris(2-aminoethyl) amine (TREN), exhibit superior self-healing properties. TREN facilitates reversible bonding between the spray-coated and surface-tethered polymers. Without a polymer brush layer, the coatings fail to fully self-heal and are prone to solvent damage and shear delamination. The approach allows autonomous self-healing of scratches at elevated temperatures or more gradually at ambient conditions, significantly enhancing coating durability and robustness. Polymer melts are widely used in various industries, such as plastics, rubber, and coatings, for their unique properties and processing advantages. However, the thermal conductivity of polymer melts is poorly understood, and it can vary significantly depending on the polymer's temperature, pressure, and molecular structure. PE is produced through polymerization of ethylene (C2H4) which is most commonly won by steam cracking. Its physical properties mainly depend on the molecular weight and the quantity of side branches. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is produced in a low-pressure catalytic process and consists of mainly linear polymer molecules. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) has a high degree of short- and long-chain branching. It is produced in a high-pressure process without a catalyst. Due to the challenging process conditions with pressures up to 40,000 psi, constructing engineers and operators of many LDPE plants worldwide have identified Flexim ’s non-intrusive ultrasonic technology as the ideal solution for flow measurements in the production of LDPE.
