Happy National Intern Day! This year, we’re not just celebrating our incredible interns at T-Mobile, but also a milestone moment – the 10th anniversary of our Internship Program! Over the past decade, our program has been recognized as a Top 100 Internship Program not once, but five times! (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023) Our interns are more than just interns. They’ve been the stars of TV commercials, the brains behind patents, and the future leaders of the wireless revolution. They’re not just watching from the sidelines; they’re making their mark and driving us forward. At T-Mobile, we’re all about breaking the rules of wireless and we’re just getting started. Our interns play a big part in that. They’re bold, they’re innovative, and they’re ready to change the game. Here’s to another decade of empowering the next generation of game-changers. Here’s to our interns! #NationalInternDay #TMobile #Uncarrier #InternshipProgram #Innovation

Week 1 complete ✅ This past week I started my summer internship at Microsoft as an Explore intern on the Real Time Communication team. I'm eager to learn from such talented colleagues and contribute to innovative projects. I want to give a shout-out to Hong Sodoma, and the rest of the team for being so kind and welcoming! There are a few things that I have taken away that I thought to share: 1.) Navigating a professional landscape let alone a new environment can be difficult. As someone coming from a first-generational background so much is changing. Yet that makes it even equally important to make use of the resources around you. Setting up 1 on 1 ☕️ conversations has gone a long way! 2.) Critical thinking shows up in more places than just a project. For me, 8 hours of work simply isn't enough time to hit ambitious goals routinely. I really have had to lean on thoughtful reflection to evaluate the usefulness of such goals. Crazily enough, approaching situations with no right answer can be thought of similarly 🫨. Challenges and growth await this summer and I can't wait to see how this summer shapes out to be! #intern #microsoft #firstGen #newStart

You can work for 6 years and still have the bargaining power or market appeal of a 6 months intern. It's inevitable that time will pass in your career but not inevitable that you will evolve and grow in terms of skills, transformative experience and "portfolio juice." How many years isn't always equal to how much juice you have. From 2024 onwards, be deliberate about stacking up on juice, not only flipping the calendar.

Just completed my first week at Microsoft! I am so thankful to my team for their warm welcome and I am excited to grow my skills this summer! Starting off a new internship can be quite daunting; however, my number one tip in the beginning, is to make connections. Here are a couple ways to do so: 📌 Set up coffee chats with your team! Learn as much as you can about the company, your team, and how your project fits into the greater scope of your organization. 📌 Set up 1:1's with you manager/mentor to set clear expectations and goals for your internship. 📌 Make friends! Ask fellow interns for lunch, go to events when possible, and build your peer-peer network of support. 📌 Set up coffee chats with people whose interests/values align with your own: explore other company disciplines, find alumni from your university/college, or people from your hometown! Goodluck to everyone interning this summer, and for those still searching, keep going, while rejections can be plentiful, it only takes one "yes" to change your life! PS: No internship? Check out resources such as The Tech Cadets to build technical experience this summer! #womaninstem #blackwomeninstem #nsbe

Extremely fortunate to say that after an amazing summer internship, I've received a full-time offer from Lumen Technologies! Getting an offer, one semester before graduating, especially when the market's this bad - phew! Here's what mattered: 1. Luck: A lot of folks (from various organizations) ended their summer internships without a return offer simply because companies do not have the "headcount" yet ... meaning they cannot roll out offers months/year in advance before they have finalized their business needs. Conversions don't happen purely based on skill. Conversions happen based on requirements, which is not in our (employee's) control. 2. Performance and Fit: This is the only thing in our control. Most of the time it just boils down to being a decent team player. Intent > Talent : someone who's committed and who shows intent to grow will always be valuable to the team. So it's okay if you don't know how to containerize an application on Day 1. This is an internship. Hot take: Point 1 often matters more than Point 2. Which is why I used the word "fortunate".
