Meet our new ' Vice President of Education" – Sarah McGuire ✅ What is the role of the ' Vice President of Education '? ↔ The VPE is responsible for planning successful club meetings which provide each member the opportunity to achieve his or her educational goals. ✅ Duties include: ↔ In the absence of the President, preside at Club and Committee meetings. ↔ Schedule upcoming roles for Club meetings, ensuring a fair rotation among members. Prepare each agenda. ↔ Find out each member's current needs (the reasons they joined or renewed) then schedule accordingly and monitor progress. ✅ A bit about Sarah McGuire ↔ Likes playing badminton weekly. ↔ Long walks/hikes in the countryside, with or without my 3 dogs. ✅ Why did you join toastmasters? ↔ Improve her public speaking skills so she could network/give talks more effectively to promote the need for later life planning and my will-writing business. ↔To make new friends from people from different walks of life, particularly those who may not have English as their first language. ✅ What is your aspiration for the club. ↔ To continue to encourage new members to join, to watch them grow in confidence and for the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere of Kent Speakers meetings to continue.

Toastmasters contest season is really heating up now. Now in my last couple weeks of prep for the Scottish Championships on 20th April. One of these contests is the evaluation contest, and as I've been practicing my evaluations at different clubs over the last couple of months, I've had a few people ask about my approach. I'd say there are some basic foundations that most evaluators need to get in play first, before looking at some more advanced skills. 1) Evaluate, don't describe I see so many evaluations that are just "Cliffe notes" for the speech we heard. We just sat and listened to the speech, we don't need you to tell us WHAT happened again. Tell us WHY it was effective, or HOW it can be improved. 2) Not offering suggestions for improvement What's the purpose of an evaluation? It's to help the audience improve as speakers (not just the speaker themselves). So how can the audience improve if you don't offer a single suggestion for improvement? Even "I Have A Dream" could be improved (There was no need for Martin to be standing behind that podium, he knew what he was saying without needing notes. Speaking of which...). 3) Using Notes At the division and even district contests, I still see about half the contestants using notes. When you use notes, it stunts your fluency (looking down and checking your next point), your voice (your "reading voice" gets activated instead of your "speaking voice") and your body language becomes muted (you can't demonstrate and emphasise your points so well whilst grasping a piece of paper). Train yourself at club meetings to deliver your evaluations without notes, so that it is second nature come contest time. You can see these points in action in my winning evaluation from last year. It's a short watch (you get disqualified if you speak over 3:30). #toastmasters #toastmasterscontest #speechevaluationscontest

❓ Are players required to run more during training sessions after promotion to the English Premier League compared to the English Championship? ⚽️ 🔬 I am pleased to share with you our research paper aimed to compare training loads between the English Premier League (EPL) and English Championship League (ECL) and examine differences between playing positions 📊 ✒️ Ryland Morgans, Ibrahim H. Ceylan, John Radnor, Ben Ryan, Matthew King, Piotr Zmijewski, Rafael Oliveira 🙏 🎯 In conclusion, higher training values in the EPL were evident, except for centre forwards, providing some guidance on the differing positional physical demands that may support coaches and practitioners to design position-specific drills incorporating physical and technical/tactical strategies. 🔗 The paper is available in #OpenAccess: https://shorturl.at/uwJPR #LegiaLAB
