Over the last 5 years, golf has become more popular for Americans. According to Footwear News, "This spike in participation has translated to a big bump in golf shoe sales. According to Circana’s retail tracking data, golf footwear saw $407.8 million in sales in 2023. And while dollar sales did decline 1 percent last year versus 2022, the market is still 48 percent larger compared to pre-pandemic 2019 when the category reported $275.8 million in sales." Thoughts on the run today: How much % of sales is apparel for running brands? Do the footwear brands want you in their gear for revenue, or more as a marketing play? Thinking primarily of Hoka, Altra, Terrex, and the like (as I am more trailie than roadie). Is the idea of curated (seasonal) bundles (or, subscriptions) a play in this regard - to get folks kitted out? Questions arising as I was running in my Patagonia Duckbill hat, HOKA long sleeve, adidas terrex shorts, Drymax Socks and ASICS Corporation shoes. A proper melange of my favorite garments and gear. Granted, I run about 2500 miles a year, have never run a road marathon, and my last road race was when I was 11 years old.
