Day #3 of Cycle for Hope Fundraising: I didn't just wake up thinking about the Karen people along the Thai-Myanmar Border one fine day... Dug up and cut a short snippet from my 2019 TEDx sharing where I shared about this longstanding issue. The takeaways? 🚢 We're all in the same boat- race is just a label, we're all people that have hopes & dreams, pains and potential. 🔫 There is no silver bullet solution- well intentioned as we may be, sometimes it is not about solving the problem but the process of doing so & trying. ❤️ Don't build a wall around my heart- it doesn't mean what's out of sight should be out of mind! 🤔 Living in first world Singapore with modern amenities and safety & security shouldn't make me think less about the problems of others but see my privilege in perspective. I genuinely wished I didn't need to do this campaign, put myself out there and advocate for the people affected by decades-old conflict in Myanmar. But unfortunately I'll be going on like a broken record because I don't believe in wishful thinking, nor that any problem is unsolvable. My life is a living testimony of a miraculous journey, my company, one that swims against the tide and my country too- one that defied the odds of history. 📰 Doing what I can 🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞🐟🐟 (Link to online article at the end) This morning, The Straits Times shared my story (again), but this one really isn't about me. This story is about the small and manageable steps that we can each take to improve the status quo. The problem may seem ginormous, a tower too tall to topple, a battle too big to be won, and therein lies a choice we all have to make... Do I: - Throw in the towel, walk away (give up) - Forward that email, get someone else more qualified, more well-positioned or well-resourced to tackle it (give up the opportunity) - Start chiseling away (slow & steady, effort seeming like a drop in the bucket) - Start a movement (do my part and trust God to send others to do theirs too) I'm thankful for God's protection and providence from inception to execution all within 6 short weeks: Many helping hands, smooth & safe ride and the 268 donors who have already donated $65,643 so far to the Mae Tao Clinic 🙏. We're not done yet but this movement has already delivered far greater impact than I would personally have been capable of doing all alone. There are no regrets for the long nights and strained legs/back- in fact any pain on my part pales in comparison to the suffering and forced choice between safety and home that are faced by millions in Myanmar at present. 😖 I've once again come out of my comfort zone, done a little too much talking and seen a little too much of my face, but I'm reminded continually that it isn't about me. INDI to IBIZA 🌴 #EveryMileMatters Project Indi will embark on a challenge to move a distance of 1,477 miles – equivalent to the distance from The Indi Club to Ibiza Airport, in just ONE WEEK! The ultimate challenge will take place on April 20th to 26th, and we aim to collectively achieve our target through rowing, cycling, walking, or running. All funds raised will support Project Indi. Due to the cost-of-living crisis and escalating expenses, the cost of providing our services is at an all-time high. It all started with a seed in my mind doing a marathon in Kilimanjaro; at mile 17, the vision appeared: the first objective was to tell everyone what you have seen in your mind, and now you will do the journey from then till now has been incredible even with covid as a huge obstacle we still overcame by seeing and believing.. Great call with our international partners in Kilimanjaro Amos Lufumbilo of Migration Adventures.. Our event is about empathy leadership and wanting to do more, which we do in many ways. We develop leaders to understand the meaning of Empathy Leadership. Ryan Kidd is about to do 20 peak challenges to raise funds for orphanages in Moshi, Tanzania. We take our 4th group up to Kilimanjaro on June 1st from different parts of the world. We are asking for clothing donations to contribute towards Kilimanjaro orphanages and clothing for Kilimanjaro porters. Warren Hawke has joined The Pathway as part of a team; I have known Warren for many years but spent much time educating Warren on our story and strategy between ourselves and Migration and communities of Tanzania. We are not a company that just takes you up Kilimanjaro; we are a company that is described by delegates who come on these trips as someone who is relentless in the pursuit for leaders to discover more about themselves. We are growing our international events as part of The Pathway, and for sure, a seed was planted in 2016, one that I was vocal in saying we would own our own international events and do it differently from everyone else. We are successfully pursuing this way of being. The secret to being this way is simply being willing to do more than anyone else. Every time we do events, we encourage leaders to raise money for charities as it is all about making a difference to humanity; that's what we are all about at the pathway.
