Pacific Talent Partners has conducted multiple CFO searches recently across ASX listed, privately owned and Private Equity backed environments. I thought I’d share a market snapshot of the current Chief Financial Officer market with my network: ▪ 12,148 profiles of Chief Financial Officers within Australia (Sydney - 3,9k & Melbourne 3k respectively): ▪ 11.8% have transitioned to new roles within the past 12 months. ▪ Notably, 29% of this talent pool comprises female professionals. ▪ The median tenure across the talent pool stands at 2.8 years. The key insights I've gathered firstly dictates that a CFO will be in the role for roughly 3 years, before searching for their next venture. The finance leader is still a male dominated position (71% Male, 29% Female). Given the amount of change that we saw during 2020, it makes sense that there has been a lot of movement over the last 12 months at the C-suite level. With only 65 advertised positions compared to over a 1,000 CFO’s finding a new role, this indicates the importance of building a strong executive network. At Pacific Talent Partners, James Trevelyan-Jones and I spearhead the Financial Officer Practice, providing comprehensive search and talent consulting services. We're always open to conversations, so feel free to connect with us, and let's explore how we can assist you further. #executivesearch #cfo #finance

Unpick this one… We helped a CFO hire a Head of Finance. This CFO was adamant the successful candidate had to have sector experience – a non-negotiable. That same CFO later applied for a role we were recruiting for, that was completely outside of their sector. It made me laugh. Hiring can come down to mindset. If you start an interview or recruitment process looking for a reason to not hire someone you will find it. If you look for areas where you can develop and support someone you will also usually find it. My view – be open. The perfect candidate rarely exists, and if they do… you have to ask yourself why they’d want a job they’re already perfect for!

I am interested in having conversations with International Group and Divisional CFO's with mid to large tier Private Equity experience who may be considering an Interim or contract opportunity. The last 3 people I have placed have been as a result of candidates being known to us and me having conversations with PE houses about their challenges and strategies and me introducing them without knowledge of a particular portco or current challenge. As well as thorough searches and reaching out for specific mandates it seems success is to be found in finding a bespoke role we all would never have known about by having confidential conversations about unique skill sets and outstanding profiles with expertise in the PE space. Current examples of active mandates include; Divisional CFO Pharma - Europe Finance Systems Implementation - Manufacturing Prague Global International Interim CFO - Italy Divisional CFO - Germany International Director of Treasury - Luxemburg. Vendor DD - Health care Uk However as I mentioned strong profiles with International PE exposure , speaking various languages and delivering financial results , leading transformation across multiple countries are a rare find in our space. If we have not spoken and you are thinking of a move but not sure what that move would look like please reach out to myself of Felix Rattray and we might be able to discover your new role together. #interimCFO #Adidemconsulting #Internationalprivateequity

Pacific Talent Partners has recently assisted an ASX listed, logistics & supply chain business in their search for a Chief Financial Officer. I've come across some fascinating data points that I'd love to share with my network: We've analysed 401 profiles of Chief Financial Officers with experience in ASX listed companies: ▪ 20.6% have transitioned to new roles within the past 12 months. ▪ Notably, 17% of this talent pool comprises female professionals. ▪ The median tenure across the talent pool stands at 2.8 years. The key insights I've gathered firstly dictates that a CFO will be in role for roughly 3 years, before searching for their next venture. I was struck by the low percentage of female diversity (it is even lower when delving into the logistics sector). Given the amount of change that we saw during 2020, it makes sense that there has been a lot of movement over the last 12 months at the C-suite level. At Pacific Talent Partners, James Trevelyan-Jones and I spearhead the Financial Officer Practice, providing comprehensive search and talent consulting services. Let me tell you a quick story. I was recently helping an amazing CFO with his job hunting. He was beyond frustrated with not being able to have a conversation about the majority of the opportunities he applied for, the main reason being industry experience. He explained to me then that he didn't get the judgement: "I work in finance, one of the most transferrable industry skillsets out there. I've got so much to offer." I agreed with him and explained that the current market is too risk-averse and that most employers are unwilling to take the risk, even if you're the best candidate. We talked about how poor some hiring decisions have been for companies, seemingly because they only hire from competitors or the same industry. Anyways, role on a few months. He secured a role in the same industry he's worked in for the last few years. He called me asking if I could help him recruit a role in his new team. I said of course. We started discussing the opportunity and guess what? That's right! He asked that the candidates come from the same industry. I gently reminded him about his own journey, to which he responded, "This is different, though. Industry experience is essential." I pushed back but he wasn't having any of it. I respected his decision and continued with the brief. Hiring Managers - You are the ones who control this. Not your company, you. There's some incredible finance talent out there. Open up and have a chat with them. ------ I'm Richard, Co-Founder of HPR, a 5-star rated Accounting and Finance recruiter in Sydney. For the best finance talent, please reach out.
