A view through the keyhole! This is what the Intelligent Plant Scanner sees on each row of the FarmWise Vulcan robotic weeding implement. Using a foundation model, the outline and stem of each organic lettuce plant and beneficial insectary Alyssum are precisely located along with a real time speed calculation using visual odometry techniques (with a single camera!). This video was captured at a little over 1 mph but the picture looks the same in excess of 15 mph.

𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹🌿 During the recent annual meeting of the Weed Science Society of America, Joe Johnson, a doctoral student at Texas A&M University, presented his research project on using a robot for weed control. He took SPOT, a robot built by Boston Dynamics, equipped it with a propane torch attached to a six-axis arm and trained it to detect common sunflowers in a cotton field. The research's results were impressive. The weeds were destroyed with a 2,642-degree flame with 97.3% accuracy. Spot did an excellent job. Although the research may seem like a novelty at first glance, using a four-legged robot like Spot offers some distinct advantages, Johnson said. For instance, compared to an autonomous wheeled robot, the robot dog is smaller and more agile, which reduces the risk of crop damage. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gEvfMGAP
