Excited to share that our manuscript titled “ Effects of breastfeeding in postoperative complication in pediatric and adolescent population-a systematic review” has been published in Annals of Medicine and Surgery journal by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. June is National Scoliosis Awareness Month. I suspect that chiropractic doctors will soon receive queries about Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) for scoliosis and will likely be seeing patients who have undergone the procedure. VBT is interesting in contrast to spinal fusion as it reportedly preserves motion and corrects curvatures as patients grow. Patient selection criteria for VBT reportedly includes patients with idiopathic scoliosis with a Cobb angle of 30-65 degrees and patients should have failed bracing and/or be intolerant to brace wear. While VBT may be beneficial, its efficacy and safety is still unproven. Post-operative risks include overcorrection of the instrumented curve, cord breakage, and bone screw migration, etc. Substantial research is needed. As a chiropractor, I will always favor non-surgical approaches. I would be interested in understanding risks/benefits and subsequent indications and contraindications to chiropractic care following VBT surgery. Hi folks! One miss on doctor's part can cost a life! That's how serious it is to be flawless in patient care. That's why although, it may sound old school in the age of telemedicine, but a doctor should always touch her patient, should always examine her and not rely blindly on reports/other medical staff/computer screen. It's not uncommon for a doctor to not visit her patient after surgery as "all is going well" as told by so and so staff. One such case happened to us recently. Sharing this recently published article about the patient in her mid fifties were we successfully were able to save her life by being vigilant and being next to her throughout. Had it been even an hour late, we could have lost her. Patients don't know everything and they put complete trust in doctors. But a doctor knows, being a human being, that mistakes happen and one can miss things. So, the least one can do is always properly examine the patient, ALWAYS and then conclude.
