Another handy git hack that I want to share with you all. We all use 'git blame' to fetch the last revision of each line of the given file. However if you want to restrict to a range of lines, you can use the switch '-L' i.e show a little. And if this is not enough then there is another hack, you can try the same switch with 'git log' as shown in the example below:

While working on a local clone of a repo, if somebody mistakenly saves the work in the wrong branch and then adds the file to the staging area using the "git add" command. Use following commands to bring the file to the working area and undoing the changes.

"fatal: The current branch X has no upstream branch." If you see this message when you use git, you can use the following command to configure the bare command "git push" to create the upstream branch whose absence caused this error message: "git config --global push.default current"

Git reflog is a command in Git that helps track and recover lost commits or branches. By using 'git reflog' in the terminal, you can view a detailed history of all actions in the repository. This feature is handy for recovering accidentally deleted branches or commits. Proceed with caution and double-check changes before executing. #GitTips #VersionControl.

💡 Git tip: The "git show" command is powerful and is similar to "git log" in terms of output, but with a slight difference. It also displays: - The commit to which the HEAD is pointing. - Differences between the versions of the files.

Sometimes after making changes to a repository, viewing the individual file changes in one place can be useful! The `--unified=0` flag makes this trivial if using git. In the image below, every change is highlighted with first the name of the file followed by lines that were changed in the typical remove-add git status tags. Additionally, the line number(s) of the changed code is given alongside the contained text. #git #datascience #cli
