My take on overwoking: While it may seem like overworking helps you accomplish more, it actually does the opposite. Overextending yourself can reduce your productivity and may even lead to burnout. To maintain high levels of efficiency, you should take short breaks throughout the workday. A 10-minute break every hour can be beneficial (applying the Pomodoro Technique), but the key is to listen to your body and take a break when you start feeling a bit tired. Additionally, working non-stop throughout the week is a surefire way to wear yourself out. Taking at least one day off is crucial for refreshing your mind and body, making you ready for the coming week. #webdevelopment #frontend #javascript #typescript #WebDevelopment

My writing schedule is taking shape: 1️⃣ Mondays: DIY Integration Playbook How to implement a messaging framework on top of Azure resources. I started as a series in May but stopped because of lack of time. Now rebooting under a new section, so it's easy to find 2️⃣ Wednesdays: Becoming Software Craftsman Stories of what got me into who I am today on the technical side. I believe, we cannot separate ourselves into professional and private pieces. All aspects of our lives have an impact on any decision we make be it a movie or a song we like or the latest technical blog entry we read. So under this umbrella I'm visiting various topics I feel helped me grow, from movies like The Wall through sci-fi and fantasy to the realms of Magic: The Gathering, anything goes that I can relate to my professional journey. 3️⃣ Fridays: Echoes Beyond Code Fiction, music, anything that is still part of me, but cannot (or do not want to) tie directly to serious topics. This is mainly for me letting off steam in a way I did 30 years ago and did not practice since. You're more than welcome to join in or ignore this part of me as you feel. 4️⃣ Sundays: Whispers of the Wyrd Thoughts not necessarily related to Software Development, rather a more broader concept of growth as a whole. I'm laying it all out for you. 📝 Task List: First off, write down all your tasks. But don't just scribble them on some random sticky note. Write down each and every task that needs to be done, so you can keep going down the list instead of procrastinating. ⏰ Morning Hustle: Do the most important things first thing in the morning. Sit down at your desk, remove any distractions, and just go down the list working on one thing after the other. 🌿 Take a fkin break: Constant grinding is a one-way ticket to burnout. Importance of taking Code breaks (My real-life recurring experience 👩💻 ) Have you ever heard of the word FLOW STATE? Even if you’ve never heard the word before, you likely have other names for the experience. People call it being “in the zone,” “in the groove,” or “losing track of time”.   Well, flow state is the experience of being so absorbed by an engaging, enjoyable task that your attention is completely held by it. You generally lose sense of time, self-consciousness, and anything that doesn’t have to do with the task at hand. Most Developers experience “Flow state” a lot and you get to hear few speak of how they can work for long hours. This is great because being in a flow state does more than just make the day go faster. It has a positive impact on your life, productivity, and well-being. But then there is this… 👇 Taking breaks during long coding sessions is essential for developers' overall well-being and productivity. While the "flow state" or being "in the zone" is a positive experience, working for extended hours can lead to mental fatigue, burnout, and decreased code quality. Code Breaks offer the following to mention a few: 📌 Mental refreshment, preventing burnout and maintaining concentration. 📌 They also contribute to eye health by alleviating strain from prolonged screen time. 📌 Increased productivity is a direct result of breaks, as they help prevent cognitive overload and enable developers to return to tasks with renewed energy and creativity. 📌 Additionally, breaks foster team collaboration through informal interactions with team members, promoting a healthy work environment. Now, this isn’t only for developers, but also for any activity you engage in. Take breaks in-between long work hours! I usually take strolls (works for me a lot), discuss with team mates if I'm not alone, check social media or engage in any activity that is not tasking mentally. I dive into coding tasks, focusing on building and refining the user interfaces of the projects I'm working on. 💻 🥪 12:30 PM - Lunch Break A break to refuel with a good meal. It's essential to step away from the screen and recharge both mentally and physically. 📝 1:30 PM - Planning & Meetings I spend the early afternoon planning my tasks and attending meetings with the team. Collaboration is key in ensuring project success. 🚀 3:00 PM - Tackling Challenges The afternoon is when I take on the trickier challenges. I love problem-solving and making improvements to the front-end of our web applications. 📢 4:30 PM - Knowledge Sharing I set aside time for learning and sharing knowledge. Whether it's reading blogs, watching tutorials, or writing my own articles, this is a crucial part of staying current in the ever-evolving field of front-end development. 📌 6:00 PM - Wrapping Up I wrap up the workday by reviewing my progress, addressing urgent issues, and planning for the next day. It's essential to leave with a clear sense of what's ahead. 🌙 7:00 PM - Personal Projects Evenings are when I explore personal projects and experiments. It's a great way to unwind and stay passionate about what I do. 🛌 10:30 PM - Time to Rest Quality sleep is vital for staying sharp and creative. I make sure to get enough rest for the next day's challenges. Remember, everyone's routine is unique. Fixme Fridays: A Ritual to Keep Your Code Clean I’d like to tell you about "Fixme Fridays". Let me paint a picture for you: Imagine a restaurant that never cleans its kitchen. Over time, rats invade, and the business shuts down. Similarly, in the software world, if we don't maintain our code, "code rot" sets in, and it can spell doom for a project. That's where "Fixme Fridays" come in. Every Friday afternoon, take a moment to address those FIXME comments you've sprinkled throughout your codebase. These aren't just random comments; they're markers indicating where some cleanup or improvement could be valuable. By addressing them, we're ensuring our "kitchen" remains spotless. Why use FIXME comments? - 💩 They prevent tech debt from accumulating unnoticed. - 📝 They keep the problem's location and its registration close. - 🌊 They don't disrupt your development flow and save you from context-switching. - 🤝 Other developers can see the issue has been noted. - 🛠️ And if they're working on that part of the code, they can address it then and there, not just on Fridays. "A Book Changed Me" is free to view on Vocal, and Medium (members only, https://lnkd.in/eZeBcyWY, updated version). This is an article I wrote for a Vocal Challenge. Of course, I haven't reached "the 4-hour work week" status yet; I believe many readers of this NY Times bestseller are not either. However, this book did impact me profoundly. Without that book, now I would probably work in a large IT firm with a fancy title, coding apps using boring technologies, spending hours per day in pointless meetings, using Jira, and managing others while being managed by someone else. I much prefer my current working style, with multiple sources of (minor) passive income, very much thanks to this book. Hopefully, one day, I can achieve my ultimate goal: "Work anytime, Live Anywhere".
