We had the pleasure of sitting down with Charles Luke, Fund Manager of abrdn Investment Trusts Murray Income Trust. The discussion focused on the strategic benefits of investing in overseas-listed companies. With the ability to allocate up to 20% of gross assets to non-UK businesses, Luke highlights the added diversification and access to high-quality industries this strategy provides. The Murray Income Trust portfolio is well-diversified across sectors, including Financials (19.9%), Industrials (15.8%), and Consumer Discretionary (13.4%). The management team focuses on identifying high-quality businesses, defined as companies with attractive business models, robust financial characteristics, and experienced management teams. Luke outlines three key reasons for investing in overseas businesses: Industry Exposure: Access to a variety of attractive industries with little or no presence in the UK market. Quality Alternatives: Ability to find better quality alternatives to UK-listed companies overseas. Diversification: Enhancing the portfolio's diversification by including overseas companies. How many of the #MagnificentSeven is MUT holding? Our thanks to Charles Luke and abrdn Investment Trusts for the insight. #InvestmentStrategy #Equities #Diversification #MUT #Financials #Industrials #ConsumerDiscretionary

Quality factors to consider when selecting a Private Credit manager that can stand the test of time. Interesting thoughts from Challenger IM who’ve operated in the Aussie space since 2005.
Private credit is booming but is also a relatively new asset class in Australia. Its steep growth in recent years has seen more and more asset managers participating in the space. With so many options available for Australian private credit, what should investors consider when assessing a manager’s competency and the resilience of their strategy should issues arise? As someone who was instrumental in making private credit available to retail investors back in 2017, it's amazing to look back and see how far we've come. However, we are still a long way behind the US and Europe, both in terms of portfolio allocations and education. Click below to read this excellent primer from Anna Kirkby on what to look out for when selecting an investment manager. This is the first of many great insights into private markets so be sure to subscribe to stay up to date. #privatecredit #fixedincome #alternatives #privatemarkets

Global Advisory Leader | Cornhill Walbrook LP | Harvard Exec Program MBA, LLB | BSc Mathematics & Computing Science
I remembering being at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford for the Global Private Equity conference around 2010 and the exact same questions and opinions about #privateequity were being discussed. I stated then that the correct model should be GP, LP and include an OP - Operating Partner. Low interest rates, high fees and low cost of debt meant that PE funds spent all their time on fundraising or deals with little time actually “hands on” with the portfolio companies. Now the time has come for PE funds to include Strategic Operating Partners (aka me/ Cornhill Walbrook) in their tool boxes to be part of the Due Diligence process and work with the management teams to drive the value creation thesis, grow the investment and get it ready for an exit. #privateequity #valuecreation #operatingpartner https://lnkd.in/eSn36XQk

I've been to Jersey a few times, including on my honeymoon when we were just emerging from lockdowns around the world. The beaches are fantastic, the architecture a unique Franco-British mix and the weather is usually very pleasant. Beyond its charm, Jersey is an important and growing financial hub. I believe a large part of this success has come from international public relations programmes of its government, corporate membership organisations and its businesses. "Build it and they will come" is something for chance and the movies, "have the right policies, build it, talk about it and keep promoting it even after they've arrived" would be more reflective of life and the world we live in. In this recent BL Global article, Crestbridge's Alex Di Santo reminds us how successful this combination of the right policies and the right promotion has been: "[in] a recent Monterey Insight report, which says Jersey funds business from US promoters more than doubled between 2017 and 2022, rising from $28.5bn to $58.7bn."
US fund managers are increasingly looking to the Channel Islands to set up funds. Between 2017 and 2022 Jersey funds business from US managers more than doubled, rising from $28.5bn to $58.7bn, as revealed in a recent report by Monterey Insight. Alex Di Santo, Group Head of Private Equity, considers why US managers are choosing the Channel Islands and shares his insights in a new article published by Business Life 👉 https://lnkd.in/exs2YbRA #PrivateEquity #Jersey #FundManagers
