Along with Bradly Shankar, we composed some of our favourite games from Summer Game Fest that we played/saw in the past week. As a small breakdown of the feature, here were my top 5 games! 1. I had the opportunity to play Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc.'s Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero and it was a childhood dream come true. I've been waiting over 15 years for a proper follow-up to Tenkaichi 3 and I was happy to see features that accommodate the old players! 2. Atlus U.S.A., Inc.'s Metaphor: ReFantazio moved up to become one of my most anticipated games this year. Coming as a big Persona fan, I loved the aesthetic, gameplay and especially the music! 3. Sega of America, Inc.'s Sonic x Shadow Generations surprised me in the sense that it's not just another remaster. Shadow's stage blew me away in both level design and references. Shadow as a character shows why he's the coolest, being able to use both chaos control/spear. We are back! 4. Afterlove EP by Pikselnesia Atma Fantasi captivated me during my short hands-on with the game. Loved the emotional impact that it leaves you at the start of the game and how it showed what the MC is going through. I'm looking forward to playing this game! 5. Harmonium The Musical left me charmed by how it used animation to tell a story using American Sign Language and music. It was like playing through a Pixar movie and I was thoroughly impressed. You can read my complete thoughts, along with Brad's SGF highlights, in the link below. It's always a pleasure contributing to MobileSyrup and attend Summer Game Fest. While it's not exactly E3, it was a dream to help cover an event like this. https://lnkd.in/eFy_y58a

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 hit PlayStation 5 exclusively on October 20 and quickly became Sony's fastest-selling first-party game. While we loved the game – read Game Informer's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 review here – players have discovered bugs and issues leading to laughter and, in some cases, progress impediment. Fortunately, developer Insomniac Games has been quick to fix issues with updates, like one last week that fixed an incorrect flag and the infamous white cube model issue. Now, the studio has released another update targeting various bugs players might be encountering in the game related to specific missions, shortcuts, tutorials, and more. Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers II is out today for PlayStation 5 and PC, and it's an extremely strong - and well deserved - start for the title! On Steam, it's the #1 best-selling paid game, and just one hour after its release, +50,000 players are now playing the game as I'm writing this - which is a massive achievement by a relatively "small" studio in Sweden. I had the pleasure of visiting the studio in Stockholm last week, and having played it myself, I'm honestly not surprised. Live-service games are getting a lot of negative attention these days, but Arrowhead proves that it's doable. You can put all sorts of engagement-stimulating mechanics into your game that in theory will make it infinitely playable - but if you don't keep the core gameplay experience front-and-center, odds are that it's just going to be another addition to the pile of discontinued live-service games. Helldivers II is definitely a live-service game, no doubt about it. But it doesn't forget what is most important: The gameplay. And that's what makes it great.

Piranha Games release MechWarrior 5: Clans Demo Trailer from GDC Piranha Games, the longstanding stewards of the MechWarrior franchise released the first gameplay footage from MechWarrior 5: Clans today. An all-new, standalone tactical action game featuring approachable mech combat and an incredible story rich campaign depicting the humans behind the mech-based conflict, coming this year to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. MechWarrior 5: Clans follows Piranha’s 2019 hit, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, which has sold more than 2 million units while securing its current 84% Very Positive ranking on Steam from more than 7,500 user reviews. The MechWarrior series’ first Clan Invasion story in decades is contained in a tight campaign of narratively driven missions where all components are intricately designed, from dialogue to mission layouts to combat scenarios. MechWarrior 5: Clans’ traditionally designed campaign is entirely self contained, separate from MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries’ utilization of procedural elements to provide an experience that can be played for dozens of hours, and uniquely different from MechWarrior Online’s focus on competitive PvP multiplayer. The result delivers an engrossing story told through a varied series of stages with tense, climatic battles, standing as the first of its kind in narrative structure and cinematic progression in the MechWarrior series. MechWarrior 5: Clans’ captivating campaign takes place across a variety of planets through stunning, meticulously designed biomes where immersive realism is baked into every detail. Handcrafted maps and missions deliver engaging combat, both complex and chaotic, demanding thoughtful, strategic play. Tactical options abound with an all-new cast of customizable Clan Mechs boasting sleek and powerful Clan technologies. MechWarrior 5: Clans explores a time in the MechWarrior universe brought on by the Clan Invasion and incredible technological advances in Mech warfare, reflected within the Clan Invasion time period. New progression and customization systems encourage pilots to alter Mech loadouts with expansive customization through an updated Mech lab, Hardpoint, and Omnipod system. MechWarrior 5: Clans also debuts ally directing tools, including a bird’s eye-style Battlegrid and a quick command radial menu, empowering players to intuitively lead their Star whether using a controller or keyboard & mouse setup. Adaptability to the scenario at hand is key to a strategic victory. MechWarrior 5: Clans på Steam (steampowered.com)
