15+ Years Insight To Photographers Rates On Advertising & E-Commerce Shoots. It's never a straightforward task. So, I thought it would be good to open up a discussion about it. Every job rate depends on several factors: 1. Experience and expertise of the photographer. It’s not just the unique and creative eye that gets you hired, but also that you can deliver even in tricky lighting or weather conditions, having 12 multilingual kids on the set or only given 2 hours to shoot. 2. Specialised skills or equipment. Such as aerial or underwater photography, the rates may also be higher. A skilled photographer can produce stunning images even with basic equipment unless the creative direction requires a specific approach ;) 3. The photographer's role. Would the photographer be hired as the visionary, setting the creative direction and hiring other creatives and models, or are these responsibilities taken care of by someone else (art director and production)? 4. Duration of the shoot. Take into consideration meeting with creatives, models, and location prior to the shoot and shooting day(s) itself. 5. Traveling for the shoot. If I need to book any flights or accommodation then I take into consideration that the fee would cover it. Unless this is taken care of by the client. 6. Post-production work, image licensing, and copyrights If extensive post-production work is required or the images will be used in perpetuity, that needs to be considered. 7. The client's budget. Before I begin with creating my cost for the job I always want to understand the client’s needs and expectations. What would you add? Check the 📌 comments link to my blog for the photography rates across Europe. --------- 📷 Katrina Tang for Gucci Kids. Shift Gears, Not Standards: Why Automotive Brands Should Embrace New Commercial Photographers The gleaming curves of a car under studio lights, the dust plume kicking up behind a rugged SUV in the desert – automotive photography ignites hearts with its blend of sleek aesthetics and raw power. But behind the lens, a hidden reality simmers: the industry's tendency to overlook new commercial photographers. In a world obsessed with experience, automotive giants often relegate fresh talent to the sidelines. This creates a vicious cycle – how can new photographers gain experience if brands won't take a chance on them? It's time for a paradigm shift. Here's why embracing new commercial photographers is a win-win for both brands and creators: Fresh Eyes, Fresh Ideas: Seasoned photographers are masters of their craft, but sometimes, their established vision can become predictable. Newcomers, brimming with untested ideas and perspectives, can infuse campaigns with a breath of fresh air. Their enthusiasm and out-of-the-box thinking can lead to innovative concepts and unexpected angles, revitalizing brand narratives and capturing the attention of a new generation. Cost-Effective Collaborations: Established photographers come with a premium price tag. By taking a chance on new talent, brands can access quality work at a more competitive rate. This opens doors to budget-conscious campaigns and allows for experimentation with diverse styles and approaches. For the photographers, it's a chance to build their portfolios and gain invaluable experience working with leading brands. Diversity Matters: The world is a vibrant tapestry of voices and perspectives, and automotive photography should reflect that. By embracing new talent, brands can showcase a wider range of stories and connect with a more diverse audience. This inclusivity resonates with consumers who increasingly seek authenticity and genuine connections from the brands they support. A Talent Pipeline for the Future: Nurturing new talent ensures a thriving ecosystem for automotive photography. By giving opportunities to newcomers, brands invest in the future of the industry. These emerging voices will become the established names of tomorrow, shaping the visual landscape of automotive advertising for years to come. Of course, due diligence is crucial. Brands should look for a strong portfolio, clear understanding of the brief, and a passionate spirit. But these qualities can often shine brighter in the eyes of a hungry newcomer than a seasoned veteran. Taking a chance on new commercial photographers is not just about giving someone a break; it's about injecting your brand with fresh energy, accessing wider audiences, and securing the future of automotive storytelling. #jeep #jeepcherokee #cherokee #commercialphotography #automotivephotography #advertisingagency #dentsu

As someone juggling roles as both a social media marketer and photographer, I've noticed a concerning trend – the insufficient acknowledgment and compensation for photographers by companies. It's disheartening to witness, given the genuine passion and hard work photographers invest in their craft. When companies express interest in using photographers' images for marketing or UGC, it's only fair to reciprocate with fair compensation. This extends beyond mere recognition; it's about acknowledging photographers as integral creators in the content landscape. Just like influencers and UGC creators, photographers should find a place in the creator realm with due compensation. Regardless of whether they specialize in family photography or commercial work. While giving credit to photographers is a common practice, the reality is that mere attribution often falls short in truly benefiting them. Credits don't pay the bills or acknowledge the considerable time, skill, and resources invested in creating compelling imagery. Let's shift towards a culture that values photographers not only in words but also in actions that make a meaningful impact on their professional lives. It's a matter of recognizing and respecting the artistic contributions that photographers bring to the table, fostering a more fair collaboration between creators and businesses. #photographer #socialmediamarketing #marketingandadvertising

High-energy Brand Photographer who helps business owners level up with on-brand photography so people notice, follow, and hire you.
Brand storytelling is an essential element of content marketing. Lifestyle photography is an excellent way to illustrate your stories and strengthen your personal brand. There are many reasons why I've found this to be true. Some see a person doing their work and being in the moment as authentic compared to a posed headshot. Lifestyle images give people a taste of what it looks like to work with you and the experience you'll have working with them. They are also great for effectively illustrating your message and making it more memorable. I'm curious to know if and how they have worked for you. Let me know in the comments. The key to remember on your journey to capture your lifestyle imagery is that it is editorial for your marketing content on various platforms. So, it should not look like snapshots but custom, professional, on-brand stock photos. I just wrote a blog on Leveraging Lifestyle photography to engage your audience. Could you check it out? #brandphotographer #brandingtips #lifestylephotographer
Nothing quite captures the essence of a lifestyle like photography. 📸 Lifestyle photography is a broad term that describes any style of photography that aims to capture people living their lives. It can include elements of other types of photography, such as portraiture, street, and editorial photography. As brands increasingly strive ⬆️ to forge deeper connections with their audiences, leveraging lifestyle photography emerges as a powerful tool to narrate your brand's story visually. It’s time to invest in a professional photographer for your business. 📸 While social media managers can snap photos, investing in a professional photographer and videographer ensures your brand's visuals are consistently compelling and cohesive.🎨 Hiring a skilled photographer is about more than capturing images—it's about curating a visual identity that resonates with your audience. As a social media manager, I've seen firsthand how powerful it is when every shot aligns perfectly with your brand's story and values, whether it's on social media or a website. 💡 When you hire a photographer, you're not just getting photos—you're investing in brand cohesiveness. Consistent visuals across your social media platforms and marketing materials build trust and recognition among your audience. A photographer can tailor their approach to highlight your brand's strengths, whether it's capturing the intricate details of your products or showcasing the unique energy of your team. 🌟 This attention to detail and artistic vision can make a significant difference in how your brand is perceived and remembered. 💭 I recently worked with a client to hire a professional photographer and elevate their photos and videos posted on social media. 📸✨ Smashed Waffles connected with Savannah Butler of Savvy Shots Production, who was able to capture stunning photo and video content that truly showcases their delicious offerings and vibrant atmosphere. 🧇 By entrusting this task to professionals, Smashed Waffles ensured their visuals are not only eye-catching but also consistent across all platforms. 📱 Check out the behind-the-scenes footage of the photoshoot and let me know how you think the photos turned out! 👇 Whether you're highlighting products, showcasing your team, or capturing the essence of your brand culture, investing in a photographer pays off in more engaging content and a stronger brand presence. 🌟📷 #BrandPhotography #SocialMediaMarketing #ProfessionalPhotography #SocialMediaPhotography

B2B Content Manager | Helping Marketing & Tech experts elevate their LinkedIn presence through Social Selling projects
I once had to organize a last-minute photoshoot in a new location, with all the props, and of course, the deadline was 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆. The brief was simple, yet daunting: “𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩 𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘴 — 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘯, 𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘺. 𝘖𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭: 3-𝘋 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯! And things didn’t go as planned… First off, the athletes hated the idea and looked anything but excited. The cotton candy melted into a sticky mess. The stands looked like they hadn’t seen a good cleaning in years. Our photographer had to cover the sky with rows of seats and photoshop fluffy cotton candy 🙈 After that experience, I learned my lesson: ↳ always detail the brief (location, time, props, vibe), ↳ talk to the heroes to get them excited, ↳ have a backup plan for weather, ↳ and make sure all the props are ready – – because you can never be too prepared for chaos 😅 Yet, despite all the challenges, the photos were great and got published in a magazine. If you want to see them, drop a comment, and I’ll DM you the results. Now I focus on writing content, not organizing shoots. But if you know a great photographer in Natanya, send me their contact info! 😉 P.S. Thanks, Marianna Inozemtseva, for reminding me of this funny story with your post about organizing photoshoots. In the first of our SmartFrame Snapshots series, we speak to action press international CEO Ulli Michel about the evolving media landscape and the critical role partnerships play in ensuring the sustainability of photography and content creation. 🌟 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 Action press international is a picture agency that handles more than 30,000 pictures daily, from all corners of the globe and specializes in providing domestic and international news coverage. With over 53 years of experience in the media industry, we’ve witnessed dramatic shifts in how images are used and shared in the digital age. ⏩ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀? Traditional media has seen a sharp decline in revenue, with many publishers moving towards digital platforms. We've adapted by adding new products like video and undertaking assignment work for various clients to diversify our revenue streams in the face of reduced imagery budgets and the increasing ease of obtaining images off the internet. 📸 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲? Photographers have faced challenges as traditional image licensing model revenue has decreased. Many photographers have had to seek alternative sources of income, and the proliferation of free image-sharing platforms, mostly social media, has negatively impacted the value of their work. 💰 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗱-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿? SmartFrame's model allows photographers to distribute their work in a more efficient and lucrative manner, benefitting from consistent usage and higher fees. This is crucial in an environment where traditional image licensing models are becoming unsustainable. 👏 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹? This partnership has been a game-changer for the photographers we work with, enabling them to continue making a living in an industry that continues to evolve. It's the difference between being able to make a living with photography and not. 🤝 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲? We hope for a long and prosperous partnership with SmartFrame. The opportunities are vast, and we've already secured partnerships with prominent sports clubs and organizations, such as New Zealand Rugby. We look forward to exploring more collaborations and expanding our presence in the industry while ensuring photographers are valued and paid fairly. Learn more about why traditional image licensing is an outdated model in the comments. 👇
