HAPPY AFRICA DAY: Africa Day, also known as African Liberation Day, is an annual commemoration of the founding the Organization of African Unity (OAU) May 25, 1963. The OAU was established with the aim of promoting unity and solidarity among African nations and supporting the decolonization efforts across the continent. It serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made by African leaders such as: António Agostinho Neto (Angola), Samuel Nujoma (Namibia), Samora Moises Machel (Mozambique), Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (South Africa), Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Kwame Nkrumah ( Ghana), Julius Nyerere ( Tanzania), Léopold Sédar Senghor (Senegal), Nnamdi Azikiwe (Nigeria), Patrice Lumumba (DRC) and activists in the fight against colonialism, apartheid, and other injustices. Overall, Africa Day is an important moment for celebrating African heritage, fostering unity, and reflecting on the continent's past, present, and future as a united and prosperous continent. Africa faces a range of challenges and opportunities in achieving greater unity, development, and prosperity in the future. Some of the key challenges include: 1. **Political Instability** 2. **Conflict and Security** 3. **Poverty and Inequality** 4. **Infrastructure Deficits** 5. **Climate Change** 6. **Healthcare and Education** Despite these challenges, Africa also has significant opportunities for achieving greater unity, development, and prosperity, including: 1. #NaturalResources: Africa is rich in natural resources, including minerals, oil, gas, and arable land, which can be leveraged to drive economic growth and development if managed sustainably and equitably. 2. #YouthDemographic: Africa has a young and growing population, which presents an opportunity for harnessing the potential of its youth through education, skills training, and entrepreneurship to drive innovation and economic growth. 3. #RegionalIntegration: Initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) present opportunities for promoting trade, investment, and economic cooperation among African countries, fostering greater unity and development across the continent. 4. #TechnologyandInnovation: The rapid adoption of digital technologies and innovation in various sectors, such as fintech, e-commerce, and renewable energy, presents opportunities for leapfrogging traditional development challenges and driving inclusive growth. 5.#PartnershipsandCollaboration: Strengthening partnerships with international organizations, development partners, and the private sector can help mobilize resources, expertise, and knowledge to address common challenges and accelerate development efforts. Overall, addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities for unity, development, and prosperity in Africa will require concerted efforts from governments, civil society, and the private sector to promote sustainable development, good governance, and inclusive growth across the continent.

Indian Oil aiming for F1 fuel supply deal https://ift.tt/wFypT1e Indian Oil Corp is working on producing fuel for Formula 1. The company was recently announced as the official fuel supplier for the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), with the deal running from 2024 to 2026. And it is now eyeing a supply deal in the pinnacle of motorsport; “We expect to manufacture fuel for Formula 1 cars and obtain the required certifications within three months,” said Indian Oil Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya. Indian Oil official fuel supplier for the ARRC F1 fuel will be manufactured at Paradip refinery Unlike the ARRC where one company supplies fuel for the entire grid, F1 allows teams to pick their own suppliers. This means the fuel is specifically formulated for each team. And Indian Oil is now looking to compete with giants like Shell, Petronas and ExxonMobil for a fuel supply contract, Vaidya told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Delhi. Vaidya added that Indian Oil’s F1 fuel will have an octane rating of more than 95 and it will be manufactured at the company’s Paradip refinery in Odisha. F1 switching to fully sustainable fuel F1 currently uses E10 fuel, which is a mixture of 90 percent fossil fuel and 10 percent sustainable ethanol. However, the championship has some big changes in store, with plans to switch to 100 percent sustainable fuel in 2026, when the new engine rules come into place. The new fuel will have to be generated using non-food biomass or even through carbon capture by drawing CO2 from the atmosphere. This means that no new fossil carbon will be burned, and you can head here to learn more about how this tech could help make internal combustion engines greener. With inputs from Kiran Murali Also see: 7 things to know about F1’s new engine rules FanCode to stream F1 in India; packages start at Rs 49 via https://ift.tt/wFypT1e
