The upcoming Plastics Recycling World Expo this September will feature multiple panels discussing key issues for the sector. With EPR schemes proliferating, PPWR changing the way we produce, consume, and recycle packaging, and the proposed ELV regulation looking to expand the scope of recycling efforts, this is a challenging time for the plastics industry but one that offers new opportunities for sustainable growth. ➡️ The event will address the changing legislative landscape in a panel featuring EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance, EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries and more. ➡️ Expanding on the theme of PPWR, a second panel featuring Berry Global, Inc., Avery Dennison and Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE) will look at how legislation, social pressure and technology are changing the role of plastic packaging in Europe. ➡️ A third discussion between MUNICIPAL WASTE EUROPE, AMI and others will then examine the economic, logistical and technological requirements that are set to influence recycling rates over the coming decade. As sustainability is high on the agenda in all industries today, there is a demand for biobased raw materials within cationic UV curing. More development is required to improve the performance of oil-based epoxies. However, there is already access to established raw materials, like oxetanes available in bio-attributed versions using the mass-balance concept. Second day at the #2024RMC three-day conference in Siegburg, Germany with my colleagues Dr. Dambarudhar Parida and Tim Börner. We present some of the research activities from Empa at the booth 6, including #cellulose or #woodbased #functionalmaterials from the cellulose & wood material group, the #recyclable #flameretardant #thermoset work from the advanced fibers group, and #lifecycleaccessment #LCA case studies of the Environmental Risk Assessment and Management Group. There are many inspiring contributions by industry experts, consulting experts and scientists to give inputs towards circular plastic system. Today I got a good update on plastic recycling from an applied point of view as well. #circulareconomy #renewable #Plastics #recycle #materials

𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬: Biodegradable plastics are not only compostable but also sortable by Near-Infrared (NIR) technology, most commonly used in existing mechanical recycling facilities! Pellenc ST, a manufacturer of NIR optical sorters, has optimized a spectrometer for bioplastics as part of the European SEALIVE Project project to advance bio-based solutions. This sorting technique effectively separates biodegradable plastics from fossil-fuel based plastics. Furthermore, it can distinguish different types of bio-based plastics, should this be of demand. This means biodegradable plastics such as PLA, PHA, PBS(A), PBAT, cellulose, and others can be collected together with conventional plastic packaging and sorted for separate recycling, offering added end-of-life value. The more biodegradable plastics packaging is used and collected, the more economically feasible these streams will become at scale. Let's embrace bioplastics as a viable alternative to conventional packaging materials and take a step towards a greener future. #SEALIVE #Bioplastics #Biodegradable #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy
PELLENC ST contributes to the future of bio-based plastics! ♻️ The european project SEALIVE Project has gathered 24 partners to answer key questions and to shape an European policy for bio-based #plastics. 👉 To find out the Pellenc ST in-house test results and the long term perspectives: https://lnkd.in/dXzz-hzq #technology #innovation #recycling #sorting #environment #circulareconomy #WearePellencST

Another not-functioning black box ⬛ for MSW or the real #circulareconomy solution ♻ we have been looking for? What do you think and know about UBQ Materials? I have come across this technology that seems to me like all the other "Silver bullet projects" that are never going to work. Before I throw it into this category, I wanted to ask in my bubble if someone knows more? In my opinion, studying this technology I believe it is suitable just for #polyolefines with a small number of other polymers like PET because of the different gasification temperatures and the Oxygen content. It is something between agglomerator and pyrolisis. I don't believe that it would be able to process organic waste, together with small fractions of construction and demolition waste which are all contained in MSW (Municipal solid waste) we know from our cities. What is your opinion? What do you know about it? https://lnkd.in/e9AsxxMV Patrik Luxemburk Robert Suchopa Peter Hodecek Dr. Nicolas Kokel Vojtech Vosecky Chris DeArmitt - PhD, FRSC, FIMMM

As one of the world’s biggest polluters, the textiles industry needs an urgent sustainability transformation. To make circularity a reality, the coated textiles value chain needs to work together on end-to-end solutions – from more sustainable raw materials to textile recycling technologies. Waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) for textile coatings are already making a positive impact in increasing sustainability and reducing emissions. INSQIN® PUDs have a global warming potential (GWP) up to 45% lower than solvent-based polymer resin equivalents – helping functional textile manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint. Our latest partly #biobased PUD: Impranil® CQ DLU With 34% renewable carbon content, this new waterborne solution supports textile manufacturers in significantly lowering their environmental footprint. Better yet, it delivers the same improved coating performance as our conventional Impranil® DLU – from >10 weeks of hydrolysis resistance and excellent foam resilience to high tensile strength and very good flexibility. 👉 Want to learn more about Impranil® CQ DLU – and our entire INSQIN® portfolio? https://lnkd.in/gcNiMxmf Let's work together to make the change to a more sustainable future! #StatusNext #circulartextiles #functionaltextiles
How can we weave the fabric of a more #sustainable textiles industry?

Designing packaging for recyclability is only part of the loop, having an infrastructure in place to ensure that flexible packaging is collected, sorted and recycled is the other. Knowing where we are, the gaps we have to overcome and moving towards improving collection and recycling systems is vital. It’s worth reading the below PRFLEX report.
#NewReport: PRFLEX members (Canada Plastics Pact, Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, Circular Materials, GAPC, Éco Entreprises Québec, Recycle BC , and The Film and Flexibles Recycling Coalition of The Recycling Partnership) are pleased to release the first phase of the PRFLEX study. This report was completed in Fall 2023 and includes a detailed assessment of the collection and recycling rates for #flexibleplasticpackaging in each Canadian province, as well as a gap analysis of the infrastructure and technologies at material recovery facilities and recyclers.
