🌞 Follow the sun The more EDP grows, the greener it gets. Over the past few years, we have been working towards a greener future by increasing our commitment to renewable energy, particularly solar energy. The Cerca Photovoltaic Plant joins our big family as our largest solar power plant in Europe, being able to supply electricity to more than 100,000 families. We will continue to follow the sun with the aim of expanding our portfolio across borders therefore, strengthen economies, supporting local communities and providing clean energy for daily consumption in the regions where we operate. 🌍 We are witnessing a transformative era in Spain's energy landscape. 🌬🍃 The recent report from Red Eléctrica reveals that 2023 has been a landmark year, with over 50% of the country's energy generation derived from renewable sources for the first time in history. Leading this green surge, wind energy accounted for an impressive 23% of the nation’s total energy production. 🏆 Additionally, Spain now ranks second in Europe in both installed renewable capacity and in generating wind and solar power. This achievement not only underscores our technological and environmental power but also aligns with the European Green Deal and the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan objectives, aimed at fostering a sustainable and resilient energy future. 🤝 This historic success is a testament to the collaborative spirit within our industry. CorPower Ocean will contribute in a policy session during EU Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels (EUSEW 2024) exploring actions to reinforce Europe's role in renewables development and manufacturing. Senior Project Manager Eunice Silva joins the panel “Renewables Made in Europe: Competitiveness of wind, solar and ocean energy”, co-organised by WindEurope, SolarPower Europe and Ocean Energy Europe. Offshore renewables are poised to become a fundamental pillar of the energy transition and energy security in the EU. By 2050, they can provide more than 300 GW or 20% of the electricity mix.  Ocean energy will play an important role offering highly predictable and consistent renewable electricity. Eunice will explain more about the mission to develop a new sustainable industry across Europe generating 500,000 qualified jobs – using local supply chains, ports and small vessels, avoiding supply chain constraints. The event comes shortly after CorPower Ocean contributed to a new ‘Guide for Decision Makers’ through the Working Group on Offshore Renewable Energies, established under the Clean Energy Industry Forum (CEIF) by the European Commission. The group, which also includes wind sector operators Vestas and Siemens Energy among others, aims to increase understanding on supply chains, while identifying challenges and potential implementation bottlenecks for reaching 2030 and 2050 offshore renewable targets. This represents a 40% increase compared to the results of the previous year, demonstrating an accelerated transition to sustainable energy sources among businesses in Europe. ♻️Spain and Germany stand out in particular, together accounting for about half of all volumes last year. Spain continues to lead as the largest PPA market, while Germany is strengthening its position, intending to become the most active market in 2024. "Green electrons" are essential for the energy transition and a key for Galp’s decarbonization strategy. The targets for renewable production in Portugal set out in the National Plan are undoubtedly ambitious, they require us to do more by 2030 than we have been able to in the last 20 years. The fundamentals for renewables investments in Portugal are here but there are challenges, and social acceptance is perhaps the biggest of them all. Exploring energy standards across continents. Here’s what I’ve learned from working in Australia, Italy, and beyond. In Australia, the National Energy Productivity Plan aims for a 40% improvement by 2030, focusing on significant energy efficiency and a rapid expansion in renewable energy, with renewables expected to generate 83% of electricity by 2030. Meanwhile, Italy is advancing towards carbon neutrality with a strong push on renewable installations and reducing energy consumption, especially through building energy efficiency, aiming for substantial emissions reductions by 2050.
