Ever encountered an unhelpful error message in your Coda pack? You're not alone. This morning, my team found a bug in the Slack Magic+ pack, and my error message was, to put it mildly, vague.
As a pack maker, I can—and should—provide much more helpful error messages.
So, why didn’t I?
Like many other busy developers, I defaulted to a generic error message due to time constraints and the perceived effort involved in customizing error messages for various scenarios.
Good error messages significantly enhance the overall Coda experience. Users often associate vague or frustrating messages with the platform itself. So it’s crucial to take the time to craft clear and helpful UserVisibleError messages.
To all pack makers, let’s commit to enhancing our error messages. And if you're a pack user encountering vague messages, remember that pack owners can improve them—don’t hesitate to ask for better clarity.
In celebration of this bug fix, I'm offering Slack Magic+ at a 30% discount today.
Let's make #Coda a better place, one error message at a time.
