Veolia partners up with Gradyent to optimise and future-proof its district heating systems! 🏢 🏥 🏪 🏫 🏬 🏭   ✅ I'm excited to share that we have signed an agreement with Veolia Poland, one of the largest #districtheating operators in Poland, to optimise current operations while preparing for future transformation in line with the company’s sustainability objectives.    💻 Starting with the district heating systems of Łódź and Poznań that cover almost 800,000 residents, our partnership will focus on building a solid #digital foundation for a decarbonised future as Veolia introduces more distributed sources into its networks.   🌍 Veolia, one of the largest players in district heating in Europe, and also operating the largest district heating network (Warsaw), has set clear ambitions to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. #energyefficiency is considered a priority while further #decarbonisation of production continues. Leading by example …5 months in my role as Head of Facility Solutions at ENGIE Deutschland have passed and I would like to share some initial feedback and impressions.   What I promptly have become aware of at #ENGIE ? The good old management practice of "leading by example" applies at ENGIE in the area of #sustainability in multiple aspects. Not only are the pain points pointed out as to what needs to be done, but the company itself sets a good example in what they do … ENGIE “walks the talk”. Just one example, I have to admit that I used to avoid public transportation whenever possible. For longer trips, I preferred to travel by plane. That has changed. The company has made me change my habits and attitude: I now take the train regularly and I also now became the proud owner of an electric car. A year ago, that wouldn´t have been an option for me, travelling long distances. Today, I actually enjoy the charging breaks and can only recommend it to everyone else, more healthy and stress-free. What´s also very special at ENGIE compared to other companies, is the focus on employees, despite all the rigor and emphasis on financial results and operational performance. For me, that´s also a very important element of sustainability.   One of my personal plans is to implement the 7 essential goals from the strategy workshops in the Facility Solutions area. So far, there have been many good theoretical approaches; I would like us to actually get these 7 defined topics rolled out into the organization now. Nevertheless, we will leverage what has been built over the past years and use this as a strong foundation to further develop. Now it is time to take the next steps.   I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and appreciate the opportunity to make a strong contribution towards a carbon neutral future at ENGIE. Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we are renewing our commitment to drive progress in meaningful ways to address climate change. Impact is front and centre in everything we do, and as Serco’s Group Chief Executive, I see that determination to make a positive difference and have a real impact right across Serco, in every colleague I meet and every worksite I visit. We’ve recently refocused our ambitions for the environment and wider approach to ESG, pledging to measure our positive impact on People, Place and Planet. Under Planet, we’re committed to reducing our carbon emissions under the Science Based Targets initiative. I’m happy to say we’re making good progress towards our net zero goal: Our carbon emissions from our operations fell 18.4% between 2022 and 2023 📉 47% of our total electricity usage is renewably sourced, up from 27% in 2022 ⚡ Electric & hybrid vehicles now make up nearly a third of our fleet 🚗 We know there’s more to do and we’re laser-focused on continuing to drive down our carbon emissions, contributing to the net zero and nature recovery ambitions of our value chain partners, and reducing our environmental footprint.
