Let's hear it for Arthur Castillo, our Senior Motion Designer! 🗣️ Q: Tell us a little bit about what you do at the Chargers. A: I'm a senior motion designer for the Chargers. I create graphics for the fan experience at SoFi Stadium, as well as for other parts of the company. Q: How did you get started? A: I got started in my career by getting my bachelor's degree at Otis College of Art and Design. Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job? A: The most rewarding part of my job is getting to see the graphics I created on one of the biggest screens in the world. Being able to see my animations during a game and being able to feel the crowd’s energy is what keeps pushing me and my creativity. Q: Any advice for those trying to get a job in sports? A: My advice for those trying to get into their motion design career is to start off by practicing and trying to replicate styles and looks that already exist. Take in inspiration from others and have a willingness to learn. Once you have the basics down, then you can add your own style into the mix and find your own voice. #motiondesign #workinsports

It’s shameful that this has to be said, but if you’re a hiring manager looking for a motion designer with a decade worth of experience, that is a senior role with senior pay. End of story. Agency and studio owners, you seem to have forgotten that the people who actually perform the service that keeps your business running are incredibly important to your business continuing to run, yet you’re more than happy to continue exploiting these people. A lot of agencies should be legitimately ashamed of what they’re asking from their employees verse what they’re compensating them for if they care at all about equality. #motionlovers #motiondesign #motiongraphics #design #equity #fairpay #creativeagency #studio #owners #designer #animation #creative

Understanding the diversity of artistic talent is crucial for any employer seeking 3D artists. When hiring, please don't dismiss applications based solely on their portfolio's alignment with your preferred style, consider the potential for growth and adaptation because we artists may surprise you (and ourselves sometimes to be honest)! As some may only be skilled working in one set style, others may enjoy the challenge of trying something new. This is an important question to go over during interviews. I have worked in many art styles, however I haven't worked in them all over my 7 years of experience. One challenge I sometimes come across are applications being declined quickly as I may not be what their looking for in terms of style. Unfortunately this can be demotivating for the artist. Encouraging artists to expand their skill set by offering them the opportunity to try something new not only broadens an artist's skill set but also fosters creativity and innovation. I enjoy being taken a little out of my comfort zone with each commission and challenged to work in an art style I may not have tackled or tackled fully before. Not only does it allow me to expand my skills but it's also fun watching things come together. With this said, I'm really excited for a meeting I have on Monday for the next commission I'll be taking on. Unable to contain my excitement, I've gone ahead and began creating a small demo to present during the meeting. This isn't a requirement however, I'm just too excited. It's coming together so well, I'm in love with it! I actually can't wait for Monday to get here now! 😅 To those who have been giving me the opportunity to expand my creative skills over the years and bring life to your games, thank you! No words can express how grateful I am! My skills have come such a long way from when I first began in 2017 because of you guys! 🤗

Imagine juggling demanding 3D client projects with your own learning initiatives. That's my day-to-day life. But one morning I was given a piece of advice that changed everything: ”Take on R&D projects in quick succession.” This simple advice transformed my way of working. Instead of getting stuck into the perfection of each project, I threw myself into rapid R&D projects, devoting between 1 hour and 2 days maximum to each project. By doing one project after another, I not only explored new techniques, but also rediscovered the pleasure of experimentation and continuous learning. Best of all, this approach has had a direct impact on the quality of my client projects. I strongly encourage you to make this philosophy part of your daily life. Find the balance between perfection and productivity, and see how it can transform the way you work. #advertising #blender #charadesign #design #Evee —————————————————— Hi there, I'm Justin Cortes. ➡️ I have +9 years of experience as Senior 3D Generalist & Motion Designer in Advertising & Film Industry . Hiring a motion design or production generalist can bring numerous advantages to businesses. Here are 3 compelling reasons to consider: Versatility: Motion design generalists are skilled in multiple aspects of motion graphics, animation, and video production. Faster turnaround: With a broader skillset, motion design generalists can work efficiently and swiftly on projects. Resourceful problem-solving: Having expertise in various areas allows motion design generalists to find solutions that specialists might overlook.

It’s a sad state of affairs that coincides with the advent and rise of AI and the likes of apps and platforms that take a reductive approach to high-specialist skills to give corporate laymen some simulation of creative control without understanding the fundamentals. Like the fact an icon is different than a logo which is different from branding. Designing for static vs motion comes with their own unique sets of issues and tacit that is ever evolving based on platforms, trends and idiosyncrasies.
Motion Templates, Toolkits and Automation for teams in sports who prioritize speed without sacrificing quality!
I'm starting to see blended Graphic + Motion designer roles listed. Even though they both have "Designer" in their title, Graphic Designer + Motion Designer are different roles. Think of it in terms of a Photographer and a Videographer. If you want the highest quality static images, you hire a Photographer. If you want the highest quality moving images, you hire a Videographer. Can you hire one and ask them to do both? Sure...as long as you understand there are tradeoffs. Graphic Designers are great at crafting a compelling static image. Motion Designers are great at crafting compelling moving images. Are there people in sports who can do both? Yes. Are there people in sports who can do both at a high level? I haven't seen it in the salary range that sports teams hire internally. One is typically a strength and the other is a capability (ie. capable enough of doing in a pinch). A better approach is to team up a graphic designer and a motion designer. Let them each play to strengths. If you can do both at a high level, post your reel in comments, I'd love to see it! #design #motiondesign #smsports
