Richard Hemming, MW writes about Coravin's recent events in Hong Kong: "[We tasted] a Premier Cru Volnay from the 2012 vintage, first accessed with Coravin in 2017. The condition of the wine was impeccable, with absolutely no evidence of oxidation. As a one-off piece of evidence, it was a great demonstration that Coravin's core proposition works: even a relatively fragile wine can be preserved for years on end without deterioration." 🍇🇵🇹The wines of Portugal are strengthening their presence for the 2024 edition of Vinexpo Wine Paris. With over 150 exhibitors representing the immense diversity of the Portuguese vineyards, they will be showcased across 900 square meters, presenting nearly 1,500 wines. “This significant presence at the upcoming edition of Vinexpo Wine Paris is justified by the fact that France is one of our main export markets, both in volume and value. Our promotional strategy for 2024 involves a strong investment in powerful international trade shows because we believe in the growth potential of Portuguese wines, especially in France, which ranks in our Top 5 export markets,” emphasizes Frederico Falcão, President of ViniPortugal. #WineofPortugal #VinhosPortugueses #WinefromPortugal #GlobalWineMarket #WineExport #ExportingWine #InternationalWine #WineParis2024

🍷 A Beginner’s Guide to En Primeur wines The practice of selling wine before it’s bottled, commonly known as en primeur or wine futures, is well established across many wine regions like Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Piedmont and Port. It’s in Bordeaux, however, where the en primeur system is of greatest importance in terms of volume, revenue and attention. Each spring, the region welcomes wine buyers and critics who taste barrel samples from the previous year’s vintage. Through a well-established supply chain, we were able purchase these wines, but the actual delivery occurs months or years later when they’ve finally been bottled. 🍷 We still have Splints available in our En Primeur investment opportunity: Château Lafite Rothschild & Carruades de Lafite | 2023 Invest today: https://lnkd.in/ev6ihCaU

With Valentine's Day tomorrow, we have dessert wines on the mind. At Wiens Cellars, we have been making both Ruby Port & White Port long enough to keep the name, but nowadays, that's pretty rare. "Port wine’s roots stretch back to the 17th century when merchants began adding brandy to wine to preserve it for the journey from Portugal to England. Today, true port comes exclusively from the Douro Valley, where the unique terroir lends these wines their distinctive qualities." Read more about 'The Tradition of Fortified Wines: Port, Sherry & Beyond' in this week's blog post.

Rose #wine is a recognized category, but if we look back in time, it hasn't always been the case. This is mainly due to a shift in perception of rosé. Traditionally, it was associated with lower quality and less complexity compared to red or white wines. However, in recent years, this has changed both among #consumers and distributors, making it a sophisticated and versatile choice. In #Spain, specifically, consumption has increased by 15% in recent years. Undoubtedly, this is due to the success of rosés internationally, such as in the United States, the United Kingdom, or France, where it is one of the most popular options. #MiradaOrganicRosé became the best rosé wine by VINOFED last year. It is a 100% Bobal, where the winemaking team has worked to develop a high-quality wine; this variety gives it unique characteristics. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy the #best rosé from Spain – it will surely surprise you! We await you at our stand Hall P8-L0 STAND A-50 at Barcelona Wine Week. #winebusiness #innovation

Though winemaking in Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe dates back to 1683, most vines were abandoned or torn out by war, and by 1997, only 10 had survived. Today, the region is comprised of nearly 200 wineries, making up 90% of Mexico’s wine. So who is responsible for the region’s recent growth? As SevenFifty Daily reports, “Pedro Poncelis Raygoza, the founder of Vinícola Punto y Aparte, believes the identity of Valle de Guadalupe is in the hands of the next generation of winemakers.” Raygoza, once named the best sommelier in Mexico by the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale, may have a point. In recent years, we have seen second- and third-generation vintners transforming their family vineyards and producing innovative wines that excite today’s wine consumers. Wine Stocks over Wine Production Ratios in Bordeaux, 1984-2023. In the mid 1980s, Bordeaux AOC wineries' red wine stocks were about 60% of Production (40% for white). However, the stock-over-production ratios have grown across the board, particularly for red wine. The 4-year moving avg for red Bordeaux has surged from about 1 in 2018 to more than 1.5 in 2023 -- suggesting the existence of a structural problem.
