Andrea Issa El Khoury started out as a Fragrance Marketing Intern for Parfums Christian Dior in 2022, then moved into a Beauty Marketing role (still PCD) in 2024 and has recently been promoted to Junior Product Manager at Parfums Christian Dior. Andrea’s top 3 pieces of advice for someone who is trying to progress in their career: 💫 Be Curious: Show a genuine interest in your role and the company. Ask questions and seek out information to learn as much as you can. Curiosity demonstrates that you're eager to understand the bigger picture and can lead you to discover new opportunities and expand your ideas. 💫 Be Passionate: Let your enthusiasm and dedication shine in everything you do. A passionate and positive attitude not only makes you more enjoyable to work with but also inspires those around you. It can drive you to excel and contribute positively to the team dynamics. 💫 Be Solution-Driven: Embrace a problem-solving mindset. When you encounter a challenge, always try to think of a solution. Being solution-driven shows your ability to think critically and contribute meaningfully to the organization. We are back with another BTS Spotlight interview, this time with our wonderful Sophie Jones! 🕵♂️ #BTSinterview #DesignerExchange #teamDE Without further ado... Department: Retail Years at DE: 3 years (this Dec) 🎤 - Favourite designer brand and why? 💬 - Choosing a favourite designer brand is tough, as I admire various ones for different reasons. However, if I had to pick, it would be Chanel. The timeless, elegant, and classic pieces resonate with me—it's like describing myself! Haha. 🎤 - What is your role at Designer Exchange? 💬 - I'm the store manager at the Knightsbridge store. I love the versatility of my role, allowing me to dive into different aspects and constantly learn something new. 🎤 - What is your favourite bit about your job? 💬 - Building connections with clients on a personal level is my favourite. In luxury retail, that personal touch in customer service is rare, but we make it happen at Designer Exchange. Plus, working with my incredible team adds to the joy. 🎤 - What led you to work for DE? 💬 - My journey with preloved items started with luxury watches, then expanded to watches and handbags. The passion for all things designer developed, and that's what brought me to Designer Exchange. 🎤 - What was your career path that has led you here? 💬 - My career journey has been quite a dynamic one. It all started as a checkout operator in New Zealand, fueled by a clear ambition for progression. I navigated through different roles, transitioning from sales in fine jewelry to taking on responsibilities as a supervisor, assistant manager, and eventually landing the role of manager in pre-owned watches. It was during this journey that I discovered my passion for working with both watches and handbags, leading me to Designer Exchange. What drew me to Designer Exchange was not only their emphasis on preloved luxury items but also their innovative approach in the sector. The presence of more brick-and-mortar stores, catering to a diverse range of consumer price points, and the unique buy outright option are key factors that set us apart from the competition. Being part of a company that pioneers such strategies in the luxury resale market is truly inspiring and aligns perfectly with my journey in this industry. 🎤 - One piece of advice you'd give your younger self? 💬 - Never regret your actions; instead, see them as valuable lessons. 🎤 - And finally, one piece of advice you'd give someone who’s looking to get into the fashion industry/similar line of work? 💬 - Learn from every experience, and don't be afraid to step into different roles. Understanding each aspect helps you appreciate the industry more.

Do you want to work in fashion but prefer a role on the management side of the industry? Creativity is not the only driver of fashion brands. It also takes business-oriented roles like buyers, marketers, and brand managers to run a successful fashion company. So if you don’t see yourself designing clothes and styling looks, you should look for a job on the management side of the industry. You might be like me for example. When a decade ago I decided I wanted to get into the fashion industry, I was more interested in finding something that could combine my passion for fashion with the management side of it. That’s why I entered the industry in the e-commerce department at Alexander McQueen. But I remember when I was at the beginning of my job search, I could find information about editors, designers, and stylists…but there was very little info about other roles in the industry, including those related to the management side. It was really hard to understand what role in fashion could fit me.
