I've attended over 15 fashion shows in the last two months, each featuring designers from around the world showcasing their collections in Dubai.  I observed the designers presenting their collections, I can't help but wonder if they are truly familiar with the landscape and cultural heritage of this region. Are they here solely for good model shoots, photos, or limelight, or is their purpose to genuinely generate brand awareness in this part of the world? It's essential for designers to consider the cultural authenticity and requirements of their customers when presenting their collections in a new location." It reminds me of the fashion brand Dior's "Sauvage" fragrance campaign in 2019. The campaign featured Native American imagery and was accused of cultural appropriation, as it did not accurately represent or respect Native American culture. Many criticized Dior for using Indigenous motifs as a marketing tool without understanding or honoring their cultural significance. This case underscores the importance of cultural sensitivity and research when incorporating elements from different cultures into fashion campaigns. I dream of sunsets on the beaches of Bali, the vibrant festivals in Rio, and the serene beauty of the Swiss Alps. Travelling is more than just a hobby for me; it's a passion, a way of life. It’s about stepping out of my comfort zone and immersing myself in the unknown. It's about the thrill of discovering new places, meeting people from different walks of life, and learning about their customs, traditions, and stories. Every stamp in my passport is a testament to the adventures I've had, the challenges I've faced, and the growth I've experienced. Developers, agents and architects can learn how to innovate in designing, branding and marketing buildings from a 55-year old promotion by Dior. In 1969, Christian Dior Couture illustrated why it is an avant-garde brand in its collaboration with Dim Dam Dom, a popular and innovative French TV programme at the time: Rather than be featured in a designated segment on fashion like other brands did on the same show, Dior instead opted to discreetly integrate its designs in a music video by an iconic singer (Francoise Hardy) singing a top-hit song (comment te dire adieu) written by a legendary musician (Serge Gainsbourg). The space and Ms. Hardy's outfit are both designed to complement each other. The word Dior makes a subtle and quick appearance towards the end of the segment, letting the video deliver a far more poignant marketing for Dior than a traditional advertisement. In effect, Dior produced a music video and curated fashion and architecture under the rubric of popular culture. This was 10 years before the proliferation of music videos in the 1980s, and over 50 years ahead of marketing trends making the rounds right now about narrative, storytelling and integrated product placement in high-end TV production. A snapshot of the late 1960s and arguably a blueprint for the 1970s, Dior has effectively manufactured taste by seamlessly aligning fashion design with architectural design with popular culture. 55 years on, this debate is ongoing in branding and marketing: How can brands benefit from popular culture to innovate in design and innovate in communication? 3 months since the last post and here I am on a faithful evening sharing another of my impactful(hopefully) Projects, I embarked on an incredible journey, diving headfirst into various remarkable projects that have left an indelible mark on my personal and professional growth. From intricate project frameworks to international-level festivals, every step has been a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and the incredible synergy that arises when passionate individuals come together. Vignan Mahotsav: An Experience Beyond Expectations The Vignan Mahotsav, a university fest, exceeded all my expectations and proved to be an extraordinary and profoundly educational experience for both myself and my team. Despite moments of exhaustion and wavering morale, our unwavering teamwork and resilience propelled us through every obstacle, allowing us to emerge triumphant and brimming with a sense of accomplishment. My role as the Choreographer and Model Master on the front end, coupled with overseeing the project's execution on the back end, was a true test of my leadership abilities. With the unwavering support of my team, we executed this project in all its glory, helping to build our models' portfolios with stunning photoshoots. Centered around the famous Netflix series "#Bridgerton," set between 1813 and 1827, our theme delved into the Regency era, a period of profound change and development in fashion, architecture, and style. This posed a significant challenge, as we not only had to engage with a revered schemata but also embrace and nurture new talents, making the experience all the more enriching. Our accomplishments extended beyond merely winning a prize in Haute Couture; we gained invaluable experience as designers and fashion enthusiasts, reigniting our passion for design and modeling. This journey has helped me understand leadership roles better, fostering moments of shared happiness and team-building that will forever be etched in my memory. The past three months have been a whirlwind of growth, discovery, and unwavering determination. Each project, each challenge, and every triumph have served as stepping stones toward a future brimming with endless possibilities. With renewed vigor and a heightened sense of purpose, I eagerly anticipate the next chapter of this exhilarating journey, ready to embrace whatever obstacles and triumphs lie ahead.
