On why Gucci is not Louis Vuitton Yesterday Gucci announced the recruitment of a former Prada and LV communication executive for the newly minted role of deputy CEO but no further precise details on the job description was highlighted with the exception of defining and implementing the brand strategy alongside JF Palus. This is the second recruitment from LV with a focus on brand and communication, the previous one was kept on the role for less than a year and a half. A clear point that shows how Gucci is trying to integrate some LV know how in the management. The same day WWD disclosed that LV hired the president of Wieden + Kennedy as the new head of communication. Wieden + Kennedy is an established, innovative global creative company NOT specialized in #fashion or #luxury That’s a very different move and a strategic one from Pietro Beccari. Instead of fishing into the usual fashion suspects more used to execute creative directors or CEOs brand vision, he hired for the top #luxury brand in the world a very experienced brand strategist and a head of an illustrious advertising and communication agency with a global coverage. Truly a different approach. One is chasing the market leader hiring its executives, the other one is boldy looking so much ahead. Who will win? A couple of months ago I received a message from Dior, sharing their plans of arranging external speakers to come in and deliver sessions for their team. It was on the theme of well-being week and they asked whether I'd be interested in delivering a session to their team about highlighting the importance of taking time for yourself, AKA #memoments - my heart fell out of my mouth! My natural instinct was to pass this opportunity on to my partner, firstly because it was on his vision board to deliver more talks this year but deep down, I think it's also because it's all I've ever known in my career - to support and connect others. I've written posts previously around the behaviours and habits of individuals in support function roles; we sit in the shadows, we're fixers, doers, but don't often think of ourselves as front centre stagers. After trying to pass this opportunity on to Kieran McMahon and him batting it straight back to me, telling me that terrified feeling I had was a good thing and was every reason why I should say yes to the opportunity. So I replied with my interest. Luckily for me, the group we hosted was small and the added bonus, it was virtual! A perfect introduction to holding my nerve for something I was genuinely terrified of but once I got started, I absolutely loved it, because I was talking about something I truly believed in and cared about. Not every opportunity that's crosses your path is going to be on your vision board or a goal you'd set for yourself and they won't all be easy to say yes to. These opportunities might just be the ones that help you stumble upon a new passion or thing you want to pursue, that you never would have sought out for yourself. #Dior #wellbeing #career

The news that Dior & Armani were fined for exploiting foreign labour, and that they sell their products for exponentially more than the cost of production has created an outrage with customers. VIP Clientele are particularly shaken, given their expectations from the luxury brands they are loyal to include: 1.  Private Spaces 2.  Dedicated Relationship Manager 3.  Priority Access 4.  Exclusive events & Community 5.  One of a kind experiences 6.  Exceptional workmanship and quality 7.  Alignment with brand ethics & values 8.  Involvement in the Brand 9.  Bespoke Products 10. Hyper- personalisation 11. Global Recognition Amongst these, ethical and sustainable practices, exquisitely hand crafted products and involvement with the brand like behind the scene tours is an important part of the VIP customer experience.   Not just VIP Customers, but all Customers want to believe in the brand values, imagining a behind the scenes tour would lead them to a quant village in Italy with passionate artisans working painstakingly one each creation. Instead the reality is more of a sweatshop.    I would think loyal Dior and Armani customers are waiting for the brand to take responsibility and show their commitment to providing a true luxury experience by:   -  promising to pay more attention to their supply chain practices -  building authentic brand stories that they can showcase openly to customers -  rebuilding trust through transparency and accountability - proactively adopting and reinforcing ethical practices in every area   This news piece definitely clouded my opinion of these brands as a luxury professional as well as a customer.
