What happens when an American greeting card company, which has used a crown logo for seven decades wants to use the same logo to sell jewelry in the US? In a trademark opposition proceeding recently filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office USPTO, Rolex is seeking to block Hallmark’s application to register its crown logo for goods that are identical or in some way related to its famous watches and likely to confuse consumers. The dispute centers around Hallmark's application for a logo featuring an open crown design circumscribed by a circle that is interrupted by a leaf for various goods including jewelry, which Rolex argues is too similar to its own iconic crown logo. The Piaget Emperador. 200 grams of 18k yellow gold. If you’re in need of a menace on your wrist, look no further. With $10,000 in current market scrap value alone, this piece is a real head turner. The onyx dial is a nice touch in case you noticed that. You had MONEY if you bought this in the 80s. The retail on these examples were around double the price of Rolex Daydates. People who really wanted to spend money on a watch or wanted to show that they had the money to spend were on examples like this or the Rolex King Midas. These watches were the gold standard (no pun intended). The Rolex Daydate in gold was and is still a great watch, one my personal favorites, but these gold watches were the ultimate end game for gold. With more scrap value and Piaget’s stronger branding back then, it WAS the watch to wear.
