#AgriFoodForum2023 has began! 🚀 Welcoming speech from European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Janusz Wojciechowski inspired for future discusions. 🗨 “Agrifood Forum 2023 is an important opportunity to explore solutions and innovations for the agrifood sector. For fruitful discussions, I would like to share my three perspectives. Firstly, rural areas are crucial for the EU. Secondly, despite the importance of local and European government institutions work to strengthen rural communities, we need to enable them to act independently. That's why initiatives like Startup Villages and Smart Villages are so important. Lastly, the EU takes into account future crises and tries to prevent them through various pacts,” said European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Janusz Wojciechowski in his @AgriFood Forum’s 2023 opening speech 🎙 ❗You can still join online to hear insightful discussions at digitalfarm.lt #AgriFoodForum2023 #AgromaistoForumas #AgriFoodLithuania #FoodSystemsTransformation #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #PeaceForFood European Commission #EuropeanCommission

Well said Jose Ramón! OP2B is proud to have companies like Pernod Ricard as member. At OP2B we advocate for acceleration and scale up of transition to Regenerative Agriculture. We ask European policy makers: 1. Align policies to improve outcomes related to soil health, biodiversity, water, climate and farmer livelihoods 2. Repurpose subsidies to accelerate the transition by providing subsidies for deploying regenerative agriculture, and incentives for ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and water quality improvement 3. Establish risk-sharing mechanisms and insurance programs 4. Foster public-private partnerships to scale up and accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture and promote collaboration within value chains. 5. Support the development of new equitable business models and reinforce markets for ecosystem services 6. Provide clear and consistent metrics through established standards
🌱🥃 The landmark FoodDrinkEurope ’s #FutureFood #IdeasFest was a great opportunity for joining efforts and engage on the extraordinary potential of #innovation and #regenerativeagriculture. 🌱🇪🇺We need constructive collaborative EU policy that supports #sustainablefarming solutions at the heart of the ambition for the EU Agrifood sector. 🌱 🌾We look forward to constructive outcomes from the #EUStrategicDialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture to foster public-private partnerships to scale-up and accelerate the transition to #regenerativeagriculture Ursula von der Leyen Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle Gaelle MARION OP2B spiritsEUROPE CEEV - Comité Vins Dirk Jacobs Ulrich Adam Pernod Ricard Morgane Yvergniaux Andrea Fogliato Maria Pia De Caro Noémie Bauer

Shifting from ‘clockwork’ to ‘cloudwork’ approaches. Food and agriculture systems are more like clouds than clocks. This means, the challenges food systems are facing, are immensely complex, multi-dimensional and ever changing: they need to be addressed systemically. This mindset shift for many international development organisations has far reaching implications for: 🌐The funding, design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of projects, programmes and portfolios. 💡Organisational culture, policies, procedures and the type of skillsets required by international development practitioners. 📈Wider systemic incentives in how donors fund and think about impacts Read the recommendations from global food systems experts in our latest report "Navigating Complexity in Food Systems: From Clockwork to Cloudwork" here: https://lnkd.in/dnjdw7qY

At the GAP Initiative's launch last week of the 2023 GAP Report, Tanager President Sergio Rivas called attention again to the longstanding issue of women's marginalization in agriculture. Referencing a study conducted by our IGNITE project on cassava growers in Southwest Nigeria (and mentioned in Tanager's article in the GAP Report), Sergio pointed out that while mechanization is helping farmers cut plowing and land preparation time from 216 hours down to just 3, women are most likely to work in cassava processing, where mechanization is doing nothing to save them time. Learnings from these studies help our partners see limitations in the current agriculture landscape and translate to practical and affordable new tools that reduce the burden on women.
