Can I add that the Dialogue on Scaling Range lands Restoration is a good start BUT it must be aimec at: 1) Forming Primary Livestock Cooperative Societies 2) Dealing with charted or registered nomadic CBOs on security, peace and conflict management, 3) Inviting registered Nomadic CBOs in rangelands dialogues like that one 4) Having Karamoja Regional Physical Development Plan prepared and approved by GoU so that rangelands as it is own or independent land use type/class/grade is delineated, 5) Having rangelands in the Karsmoja Regional PDP documented, surveyed, mapped, registered and titled per Nomadic CBO or Primary Livestock Cooperative Society Limited or Property Holding Company per ethnic group and 6) Forming of Karamoja Livestock Cooperative Union. If not the rangelands dialogue cannot bear any fruits for Karamoja Nomadic Pastoralists and that will be wastages of resources. PC Addia General Secretary Jie Range Pastoralists:' Association/CBO

🎙️ NEW PODCAST New research insights suggest that deep sown long coleoptile wheat (LCW) varieties are an effective way to avoid rhizoctonia infection. It’s one of the many added benefits of LCW emerging as part of a $12.7 million GRDC investment to provide growers with the knowledge and tools to integrate LCW into their farming systems, once the genetics become commercially available. In this podcast we hear all about the rhizoctonia research from 2 project participants, Dr Jonathan Anderson and Michael Lamond. This 4-year long coleoptile wheat project is being led by CSIRO along with research partners including the University of Melbourne, NSW Department of Primary Industries, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (Queensland), SLR Agriculture, Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development, University of South Australia and EPAG Research. Experts and agricultural researchers have advocated the adoption of technologies and innovation to produce intensive agriculture and bridge the yield gap between Africa and other continents so as to ensure food security in the continent. The researchers, from different research groups including the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), WorldFish, AfricaRice and CGIAR, the largest publicly funded international agriculture research, among others, were unanimous in the suggestion that agricultural transformation is important to ensuring food, nutrition and environmental security in Africa. https://tr.ee/-GNiNbpaWJ Voice of Nigeria

"#Legume #SeedSystem performance in sub‑Saharan Africa: barriers, opportunities, and scaling options. A review". The European Union's Directorate-General for International Partnerships, funded Leg4Dev project project led by the University of Galway recently published a new #SystematicReview on Legume Seed Systems in the journal Agronomy for Sustainable Development. The review finds evidence that improved #legume varieties have positive effects on welfare, #FoodSecurity, dietary diversity and income for #SmallholderFarmers in sub-Saharan Africa. There are strong rationales for more effective scaling of legumes for development outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. 🚨 Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) Launches Comprehensive Battle Against Fall Armyworms 🚨 Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is a polyphagous insect that feeds mainly on maize and more than 80 other crops, including wheat, sorghum, millet, sugarcane, vegetable crops, and cotton, directly influencing food security, impacting food production and the rural livelihoods of millions. 🌾 Based on FAO estimates from 12 African countries, up to 17.7 million tonnes of maize could be lost annually due to FAW, equivalent to USD 2.5 - 6.2 billion, and enough to feed tens of millions of people. 😞 Using Push-Pull Technology To Suppress Armyworms 💪 Since the beginning of the #UPSCALEproject in 2020, the 'push-pull technology' has been introduced to the farmers as an integrated cropping system involving a repellent intercrop to drive pests away from the main crop. In collaboration with the ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, RAB promotes the push-pull technique, highlighting its successful trials in Nyanze, Gatsibo, Nyagatare, Gicumbi, Musanze, Ngororero, and Rubavu districts. 🧪 Explore more about FAW and PPT at: https://upscale-h2020.eu/
