When one of Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) employees face a potential blood body fluid exposure, they must swiftly contact the on-call nurses who can test and treat them in the case of an exposure. Unfortunately, each of the zones within their organization had different practices for contacting their nurses and reporting exposures leading to high costs and inefficient workflows. Considering this, AHS decided it was time to standardize their processes across zones. Now, they use OnPage dedicated lines, enabling exposed employees to leave a voicemail for the on-call nurses who can then evaluate the situation and determine the best course of action. The introduction of OnPage improved nurse response time across all zones, enabling those in charge of workplace safety to focus on providing greater accessibility of care to their employees.
