“Think like a laboratory, not like a factory.” - Jacob Morgan In today's rapidly evolving world, sticking to the old ways can be a death sentence for any organization. Ever since the days of Henri Fayol and Frederick Winslow Taylor, companies have been built like factories—process-centric, resistant to change, and focused on efficiency above all else. This mindset is outdated. 🏭 Factories: • Embrace the status quo • Prioritize efficiency and linear processes • Ideal for repetitive tasks (think robots, not humans) But now, we have robots to handle those monotonous tasks. If your organization still operates like a factory, it’s on the path to obsolescence. 🔬 Laboratories: • Embrace experimentation and failure • Use data to drive decisions • Foster innovation and engagement In a world where change is constant, your organization must think like a laboratory. Experiment, learn, innovate. It’s the only way to stay relevant and competitive. Image credit: Jacob Morgan

I had not thought of things this way, but it’s so true that the lab mindset is where we need to be.

yes! when we think like scientists we open ourselves up to so many possibilities, experimentation (without judgement) - even play, because we are allowing ourselves the grace of trial/error/observe, ok we try again.!

Agreed! I am beginning to believe the sole purpose of meetings is to roll up short-term pilots and/or learn from the success or failure of those pilots.

Preach!Alina Okun Been telling my clients for years that clinging to factory mentalities is a recipe for disaster. Innovation gets stifled, talent gets bored, and the bottom line suffers.

Perfect! Love this so much! Factory mindsets lead to stagnation or worse- dead ends. A laboratory mindset normalises innovation and uses 'fails' as indicators of where the success is Alina Okun
