Coty inks long-term licensing deal with Etro 🤝 American cosmetics brand, Coty, has announced a long-term beauty license with luxury Italian fashion house, Etro, to produce and distribute signature fragrance lines and home scent collections beyond 2040. Coty said in a statement that the deal will drive the expansion of Etro's fragrances as well as grow the brand's beauty portfolio by exploring new categories and innovations. It is the first time that Etro fragrances will be developed, produced and distributed externally rather than in-house. Sue Nabi, CEO at Coty, commented: "We are delighted to announce our new alliance with Etro, an Italian luxury fashion house that is renowned for its timeless designs and relentless focus on quality. Etro is an iconic brand with a long-standing heritage of excellence that is reflected across every facet of its business." Fabrizio Cardinali, CEO at Etro, added: "This partnership with Coty marks another invigorating chapter for Etro as we continue to bolster the evolution of our beauty portfolio. Have you heard about #ZARAPREOWNED? It looks like an attempt to hit two targets with one arrow to me. On the one hand, they aim to position themselves in the more luxury segment, where pre-owned concepts are widespread, and on the other side, simultaneously reduce their negative reputation as an environmentally unfriendly brand in the fast fashion industry. The first point is the so-called "Anchoring" in marketing strategy. This is the psychological concept - when familiar information or contexts are used to influence people's perception and decision-making about something. Will it be successful in changing people's perception of Zara as a mass-market fashion - we will see. Interestingly, by the way, why does Massimo Dutti, which is more sophisticated and expensive in the same Inditex Fashion Group where Zara is, not use this strategy, too? #marketingstrategy #retailmarketing #sustainability

A landmark deal for fragrance. Almost all investors I speak to are looking to invest in the next big fragrance brand. VC’s, PE firms and Strategics all searching for the next BYREDO (exited to Puig for $1bn in 2022 if anyone missed that). Prior to this, fragrance was met with nervousness from investors due to it’s perception of being emotional and unpredictable - like fashion. This deal is surprising because MATIERE PREMIERE is not at a growth phase that you would expect strategic investment to be taken. Akin to when The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. took a minority stake in Haeckels this is a illustration of a strategic noticing the potential and putting their stake in the ground to keep other investors away. Why have Kering invested in MATIERE PREMIERE - Vertical Intergration : Matiere Premiere grow many of their ingredients in Grasse from roses to jasmine; Traceability and PR gold. - The Nose : Aurélien Guichard is one of the most esteemed noses today having worked at Givaudan and Firmenich on fragrances such as Jean Paul GAULTIER and MUGLER Angel. Investors increasingly require this type of persona in investemnt targets - The scents are stunning, loved by fragrance officianos globally - Potential to scale globally and profitably And a big shout out to Juliet Fallowfield and Fallow, Field & Mason for having managed the UK PR so fantastically to get to this point. The only negative point about this deal is that my beloved Crystal Saffron is probably going to be everywhere now 😔
