On Aug 15th 2023, India celebrates its 76th Independence Day. As we mark this momentous occasion, I am sharing a fascinating conversation with 87-year-old father. I captured his thoughts and point of you view in the 12 slides below. When I asked him what true freedom means to him, My father said that true freedom is not just about being free from foreign rule. It is also about being free from poverty, hunger, and disease. It is about having the opportunity to live a life of dignity and self-respect. It is about being able to contribute to the betterment of society. He also spoke about the real meaning of India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. My father's words have inspired me to work even harder to make the world a more just and equitable society. The treatment that follows, often compounded by the legacies of colonialism, speaks volumes about the pervasive impact of racial perceptions. This reality challenges the notion of colorblindness or a more appropriate term, color evasiveness, such as the common phrase "I don't see color." While this may be intended as a statement of inclusivity, it overlooks the experiences of those directly impacted by racial dynamics, inadvertently contributing to the problem. In my work focused on healing humanity, I've witnessed how misunderstandings and oversights can deepen societal divides. Whether it's protective measures adopted by marginalized communities or the everyday interactions shaped by color perception, these experiences are powerful reminders of the need for a holistic approach in all our endeavors.
