The appetite for software development is infinite and AI has transformed what’s possible…it does make you think how this serves as a microcosm of the macrocosm for how we should be thinking about human-AI interaction 🤔. Software development has been fundamentally supply-constrained. Until now - what’s possible has been limited by the number of engineers, not by the number of ideas. But AI is: ✅ Unlocking the speed at which software can be shipped ✅ Enhancing the developer experience and freeing up time to focus on what matters most ✅ Opening doors for a greater number of people to be involved in building and operating software Sure, this is just one slice of AI (though arguably, a very important one). But what is exciting, is it represents human creativity in the infinite 🤯. At Atlassian, we’re constantly thinking about human-AI partnership. How do we effectively bring AI onto teams so that it can help more people unleash more potential? The software development use case really demonstrates the possibilities when we get things humming.

I love the intentionality of this framing. AI truly unlocks our untapped potential, enhancing rather than threatening our human capabilities. At Faethm by Pearson, we share this vision. Our mission is to empower enterprises and their employees to navigate the future of work by understanding and embracing AI & other emerging technologies. We're not just focused on automation; we're equally passionate about how technology can augment our work and become a true partner. As a product leader in this space, I think it's very exciting to see how AI will transform our approach to software development, but also the broader world of work beyond!

Two clear pathways for AI to enhance human output are clear: 👉 task automation - where AI can take a lot of the repetitive tasks away from humans so we can focus on high-value tasks 👉 agentic workforce - AI agents taking on workloads on behalf of humans where we can supervise and guide the outputs Both have their benefits but, as Siobhan mentioned, the breakdown of tasks or jobs will guide which AI technique best fits. Either way, we now have the ability to free up our time away to focus on the stuff that matters most and increase our productivity all whilst significantly reducing costs. Pretty damn cool and it's only the beginning!

We have been obsessing over this also and it felt very scattered until we built a tool (yes, AI) to break down each job into tasks, skills and outcomes and analyzed which tasks had the highest impact for AI or automation. Interestingly, we did this with all the tasks in Jira, which gave us our roadmap for where we should bring in AI as a worker. We are now saving $1.5 million a month and are more productive than ever, but it required the focus of understanding where the highest impact tasks were. I really see Jira being a huge unlock to this new world of work where work is moved to the right worker (even digital workers). Exciting times Mike Cannon-Brookes Avani Solanki Prabhakar

I built this app in half to a third of the time using chatgpt. It's crazy the power it gives engineers. https://www.gptorganized.com

Couldn't agree more Mike. We had this debate yesterday at Humanico as we consider where we use and extend our use of AI, where we don't, but ultimately being true to our values and always puttying the Human at the centre, for us and for our customers. The magic happens when workforce, technologists, strategists, and change communities come together! Leading with human-centered design and change is key to success. Breaking roles into tasks and skills; using AI to automate/augment tasks, and simultaneously up/reskilling humans for the future. Focusing on both smart AI-enabled delivery and skills that give people successful future careers creates a win-win human-AI partnership! 🚀

Have been exploring the #SecOps pattern implementation of Jira recently and there’s a strong role for assisting in parsing Threat signal from noise, something machines can do well at scale, provided their training set isn’t corrupted. Am sure #CISO audiences would welcome an ability to deal with data volume in risk based vulnerability assessments that AI can lean into.

The impact of AI on software development is truly transformative, removing traditional constraints and unlocking new possibilities. AI is not only accelerating the speed of software delivery but also enhancing the developer experience by allowing them to focus on what matters most.

It unleashes creativity, speeds up processes, and involves more people in building software, love it.
