I am very glad to share these three pieces five days before the #GRF2023! 1. The most exciting aspect for me, which influenced all of Save the Children's work at the GRF, was the consultations with 288 #refugee #children in seven different refugee-hosting countries. They told us about their challenges, needs, and ideas for solutions: https://lnkd.in/erVuj5gp 2. The ideas from these children shaped our pledges ahead of the #RefugeeForum. These pledges primarily focus on promoting the rights of refugee children: https://lnkd.in/emppNfes 3. Lastly, a short thought piece highlighting the crucial role of children (40% of the forcibly displaced population), #host countries, and the importance of fair responsibility sharing https://lnkd.in/eQwiWaYQ

Today, Global Refugee Forum has started and so many pledges for and with refugees with be announced. But the question I am struggle with is: What transpires on the following Monday and thereafter? Will the GRF 2023 be a defining commitment moment, propelling sustained actions for refugees and host communities, or will it be a fleeting performance? Today marks the start of the #GlobalRegugeeForum 2023. My dear colleague and friend, Brikena Zogaj, has outlined in this article some key reasons that we can be hopeful. "We are hopeful as this year at GRF is different for World Vision and for the families we serve. For the first time: - There will be pledges on child protection under the multi-stakeholder pledge on child rights, including priority areas such as access to critical services (MHPSS, Social Protection, Health Case), empowerment and meaningful participation of refugee children, and protective and inclusive education. This pledge is informed by massive consultations that members of the Initiative have carried out. - Refugee children are inputting in the pledge for their rights, and they will be face to face with decision-makers and allies for the fulfilment of their rights. - GRF will speak to the protection of girls and boys in refugee contexts, based also on their calls." #GRF2023 #WithRefugees #displacement #Children #FA4COM #MHPSS #SocialProtection #Health

Today, on #WorldRefugeeDay, ECDAN remembers millions of displaced children, parents, and families around the world. The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency estimates a staggering 43.3 million children have been forcibly displaced, uprooted from their homes and communities. At ECDAN, we believe every child deserves a safe, loving home-regardless of background. These children deserve the chance to grow up healthy, happy, and reach their full potential. By investing in ECD, we can empower displaced children to build brighter futures, no matter where they call home. How can you help? ➡ Advocate for policies that priorities the needs of displaced children including the access to essential quality services. ➡Share this post and use #WorldRefugeeDay to show your solidarity. Together, we can create a world where #everychild, regardless of their background, feels safe, loved, and has the opportunity to thrive.

A Theory of Change model is a comprehensive methodology used to map out the steps necessary to achieve a long-term goal. It involves identifying the desired outcomes, the interventions required to achieve those outcomes, and the assumptions underlying the connections between activities and results. The model is iterative and flexible, allowing organisations to adapt their strategies based on ongoing learning and feedback. At HOST, our Theory of Change model guides our work with former refugees and migrants. Our vision is a world where these individuals are welcomed and empowered. Our practical and advocacy efforts aim to influence policies for refugee rights, while capacity-building enhances our staff and stakeholders’ skills. We base our approach on manaakitanga, community and policy engagement. By gathering information and continuously learning, we refine our strategies for effective, sustainable impact and adapt to emerging challenges. To read more about the Theory of Change model and how we utilise it, read further on our website: https://lnkd.in/e9YumzFU #individualwellbeing #community #systemschange #TheoryOfChange #formerrefugees #migrants #inclusion

We are urging the Biden administration to halt deportations to Haiti as it’s experiencing a state of emergency after armed groups took over large parts of the country. Last month, more than 400 immigrant advocacy organizations signed a letter asking for a memorandum on deportations and Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Haitian nationals. Without redesignation, Haitian nationals in the U.S., including children, would be callously returned to a country that cannot safely receive them and where they are likely to experience harm. Redesignating TPS for Haiti will protect the well-being of children, both those of Haitian heritage in the United States and Haiti. We urge this administration to #redesignatehaitiantps now! Summary Report: Regional Strategic Dialogue on Refugee and Stateless Children Education Read the Report: https://lnkd.in/gw-xy7Je In November 2023, the Asia Displacement Solutions Platform (ADSP) and the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN), with financial assistance from EU Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), co-hosted an online dialogue session on refugee and stateless children education. The session's primary aim was to underline the long-term benefits of inclusive education policies for these vulnerable groups, enabling them to be in a position to actively contribute to and engage with society. Moreover, the aim was also to foster a collaborative spirit among regional stakeholders, emphasising the importance of unified efforts to effectively address the educational challenges faced by refugee and stateless children. #Refugees #RefugeeChildren #StatelessChildren #Advocacy #APRRN #Report #Dialogue

Today I was honored to speak at a #Globalrefugeeforum (#grf) linked event entitled "Leveraging the HDP nexus and Improving Protection through a Whole-of-Society Approach: Good Practices from the Asia Pacific" I shared about the capability of Refugee-led initiatives or #RLOs to contribute to any discussion and decision that impacts our lives, and their important role in #wholeofsociety as the first responders to our communities needs. But in order to achieve the whole-of-society approach in a meaningful way, all stakeholders should collaborate with #Civilsocietyorganizations, especially #RLIs, based on #equitablepartnership elements and framework to allow all stakeholders to have equal ownership, leadership, and influence, which should ultimately lead any programs, policies, and discussions towards greater impact. But building equitable partnerships requires resources, time, and flexibility, it is very important for #donors to be flexible and fully onboard with the idea of equitable partnerships. That is why, I believe, if we want to enable the whole of society approach, we should ask donors to give #directfunding to RLIs and bring flexibility in their funding to #INGOs so they can build equitable partnerships with refugee-led initiatives.
