- I have facilitated all age groups, and adults are often the most challenging audience 'cause they usually have a clear idea of what they want to achieve when they walk in the door. They can also be resistant to handing over the reins to the leader because they're used to being in control of their daily experiences. Every facilitator needs to know a bit about Adult Learning Theory, which is the idea that as we mature and leave schooling, we have more freedom for self-directed learning, and we shift to finding solutions for our real life challenges. As adults, we have some internal motivation to learn something simply because it interests us. In addition, as we live longer we accumulate more knowledge and experience, which becomes a resource for more learning.
