Understand levels of difficult behavior

When dealing with difficult coworkers, it helps to understand the different levels of difficult behavior. This will help you figure out next steps. There are four main levels. In Level 1, the behavior is just different from yours. We all have our own styles and quirks. Maybe this person is more outspoken or competitive or just more unconventional than you are. If it isn't inherently problematic, ask yourself if your reaction might say more about you than it does about them. Can you expand your comfort zone? In Level 2, the behavior is a result of the person lacking certain skills or abilities. For example, they might struggle with completing tasks on time, or they might need to improve their communication abilities. Often this stems from situational issues like being less experienced in their role or facing personal challenges outside work. These shortcomings usually have room for coaching and improvement.
