Do you love being told what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and why you're doing it wrong? No? Yeah. Me neither. When I was thinking about difficult boss behavior, I felt that micromanagement deserved a video of its own because it's a common frustration and it can be tough to know what to do about it. Micromanagement is a common struggle with bosses. Excessive oversight and aggressive control of the work that you're supposed to be doing can make you feel distrusted and patronized, but there are strategies you can use to mitigate this behavior. First off, start by assuming good intentions. Some people micromanage because they're genuinely trying to be helpful. Ask your boss if you can have a collaborative conversation. Let them know that you tend to do your best work when you're given space and trust, and ask if they would be open to testing out a system where they check in on you less.
