- Here's the next exercise to help limber your tongue and disrelate the tongue from achieving different pitches. What I mean by that is when you're singing different notes, the tongue really has nothing to do with it. It all has to do with the vibrations that occur internally in your larynx. So, a lot of singers, and you may be one of them, often will pull the tongue up as they're singing higher and then it makes it feel like the higher note is hard or even out of your range. Really, what is happening to some extent, at least, is the tongue is pulling the larynx out of position and that's making the note harder to get. There's a few other elements that go into it, but that's a really big one. So, now you get to stick your tongue out at me again, and I'll show you how this goes. I'll stick my tongue out at you first. Okay, so we got the tongue out, and we're gonna sing an Ah through a melody, keeping that tongue out.
