- [Rick] In this video, I'll demonstrate how to configure shares for CPU and memory on a virtual machine in vSphere eight inside of the vSphere client. And so again, we're going to go under hosts and clusters and here's that DemoVM that we looked at in the last video. You can see it's currently powered off. I'm going to right click the VM and go to edit settings. And under CPU, we just looked at reservations and limits. In the last video, we talked about reservations and limits and how inflexible those configurations are. They are hard limits or hard reservations. Now, shares, on the other hand, are built to be flexible. Shares are only going to be enforced during times of contention. And shares allow us to configure relative priority. So basically what that means is, let's say that I have multiple virtual machines running on an ESXI host. The share values are going to determine priority, which virtual machines are going to get the highest priority access to resources. So some virtual…
