Applying moderated research

- When moderating research sessions, the way you guide the conversation is just as important as the quality of the questions that you write. You want your participants to feel comfortable and engaged enough with you to share information, so you have to set a friendly, approachable tone. At the beginning of every moderated session, remind participants that there are no wrong answers, that you value their opinion, and that your job is to uncover insights, good and bad. Remember that you should be looked at as a neutral party. If you weren't involved in the creation of whatever you're investigating, let participants know. Remind participants that you'd like them to think aloud as they go. This is unnatural for most people, so try giving them an example, like walking them through how you log into your email.
