- In order to interact with an interface, people need to first perceive the opportunity to interact. People must understand that there are things they can do. It is more difficult to perceive opportunities to interact when content and functionality is hidden, such as behind rollovers or gestures, offscreen or in a different state, such as modal dialogues, or even behind abstract icons. This is more than just being visible. Perceivability is about making opportunities to interact accessible for all people, across many types of devices. We must design for visual interfaces, physical products, screen readers, and different types of input, including mice, typing, touch and more. Opportunities for gestural and voice interactions can be especially difficult to communicate. And people often do not know what they can do or say, so many interactions are overlooked.
