- Context is only part of the story. We also need to know why people are doing something and what they are trying to achieve. We need to know their goals. There are many reasons people engage in activities and interact with products. And we can think of people's activities in two categories. When we need to get things done and are focused on being productive, we tend to be task-focused and often have clear and well-defined end states. Work and personal tasks often fall into this category because we have a clear understanding of what we need to complete or achieve. When we want to play, create, or explore, we are less focused on completing the task and are less concerned with reaching an end point. We play games, watch movies, listen to music, and share photos and stories on social networks because we enjoy them as creative and social activities.
