- As a rule, most people hate confrontation, and will do anything to avoid it. But when you give notice, you can't do that. Sometimes the only way around a problem is straight through it. Also, know that talking to your boss doesn't necessarily have to be contentious. I've often been on both sides of the table on this one, and been surprised about how easy the conversation has often been. If your boss is any good at reading people, they already know, or at least have a good idea, that you've been unhappy, and were looking to leave. I remember one of these conversations very well. I had worked for Maggie for about two years, and we had become friends outside the office. But then, there was an ownership change at our company, and become much more corporate.
