Natural minor scale

- We know that C major and A minor are relative keys, and that they share the same key signature with different roots. The scale built off of the root of the relative minor key is called the natural minor scale. Using all seven letters of the musical alphabet, we construct the natural minor scale. We can see that the pattern of whole and half steps is different from that of the major scale. Here, the formula is whole, half, whole, whole, half, whole, whole. You'll notice that if I count up three letters from A, A, B, C, (guitar scale playing) I get the tonic of the relative major, which is C major. If we took the E natural minor and count up three from E, E, F sharp, and G, (guitar scale playing) We find the tonic of the relative major, which is G.
